CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 4.5 based on 18 reviews)
| Great resource!! by CP3 (Glendale, CA) 5 Stars October 25, 2009 I am still breastfeeding my twin boys and they are now 13 months old. The first 5 to 6 months I used this book often. I read most of it first and then I'd go back and review it if I was having a problem. One of the main things I liked about it was the encouragement to keep going. It helped me realize what was going on when I got a yeast infection so I was able to get medical help right away. My supply was one of my biggest concerns in the first 5 months or so and I have to say the key to that is nurse often!! So hard to do with a toddler in the house and the busyness of life. I spent so much time nursing the first few months it was unbelievable. TANDEM nursing is the only way to go!! If I can do it so can you and I really don't think you'll be sorry to have this resource.

April Rudat, a registered dietitian and successful breastfeeding mother of twins, writes a complete guide for every step of the breastfeeding process. The book begins by explaining the benefits of breastfeeding such as the wonderful bonding benefits, the benefits for the babies immune systems, and the significant financial benefits. Breastfeeding can save $400 per month! Chapter Two provides a complete list of everything needed for the baby nursery. This chapter will be very helpful for mothers who are expecting twins because Ms. Rudat explains all of the following: Health and First Aid Supplies, Bathing Supplies, Items needed for Diaper changes and items needed for inside the diaper bag, as well as wardrobe tips and safety supplies. The book also explains items that you will not need. Chapter Three explores creating a nursery environment which s conducive to Breastfeeding twins including tandem breastfeeding (breastfeeding both babies at the same time). This chapter also provides helpful pictures as well as tips for establishing a routine.
Each chapter of this book provides valuable information about nutrition and useful tips for breastfeeding twins. The seven steps to breastfeeding twins are well written and easy to follow. Ms.Rudat also provides her favorite books and websites. Chapter Eight provides a superb reference guide which explains all about the breasts. It explains the anatomy and physiology of the breasts. I learned so much from this chapter! In Chapter Nine Breast Care is explained. At the end of each chapter Ms. Rudat sums it up for you by providing ten simple steps to follow. Each steps of the way the author is a motivator guiding you thru the breastfeeding journey. | | Good but not a bible by J. Rufo 3 Stars May 03, 2009 I bought this book during my twin pregnancy, and while I agree with the reviewers who say this book is wonderful encouragement for moms who hope to breastfeed twins, I would warn those who purchase the book to also purchase other books, such as Mothering Multiples (the La Leche book). In addition, a lactation consultant who comes to your house, and will answer emails and phone calls, is a MUST.
On the good side, Rudat offers very practical advice, especially the step by step portion on how to tandem breastfeed the babies (including pictures), and she has great tips on how to successfully breastfeed through proper nutrition and hydration.
However, there are a lot of obstacles and difficulties that come up with nursing twins that Rudat does not fully address - for instance, she has a section on plugged ducts that she casually mentions, because she never really experienced them. Also, there is an overall tone of superiority throughout the book - I was very determined to breastfeed my babies at all costs because I felt that if Rudat could do it, so could I. However, this attitude is not the healthiest - if a woman is going through postpartum depression, sore nipples, poor milk production (a definite reality when nursing twins), fussy hungry babies, and extreme exhaustion, it can be detrimental to everyone involved (mom, dad, babies) for a mom to be so determined to breastfeed at the expense of everyone's sanity and health. I know this because I was one of these moms. I strongly support breastfeeding, and I feel that all obstacles associated with nursing twins can be overcome through hard work, determination, and the advice of a lactation consultant; however, I also support those mothers who decide for whatever reason that they need to make the switch to formula. And I feel that Rudat does not support this at all, because her breastfeeding experience was relatively easy.
I suggest that if you decide to purchase this book, that you also read a variety of other women's experiences, find a good lactation consultant before the birth, and most importantly, keep an open mind. Any amount of breastfeeding is good for the babies, and you should not feel guilty in any way for making the decision to feed formula. The babies' happiness, and YOUR happiness, is paramount.
| | Built my confidence. by Mom-of-twins-to-be (Pittsburgh, PA) 4 Stars December 11, 2008 I'm 17 weeks into my first pregnancy. We are thrilled to be having twins! And I've thought the same thing as April so many times so far when people have told me I'm crazy for wanting to breastfeed my babies. But I WILL do it (there is no doubt in my mind)...I just needed a few practical real-life tips and hints to validate what I aready knew was possible. That's what this book has provided me, and it's given me confidence to answer my naysayers positively and have no doubt that I can do this, with the PROPER TOOLS, KNOWLEDGE and HELP. It doesn't just 'happen' and April is straightforward in stating that it takes work and determination, which is fine with me. I'll be thinking of you, April, when these babies arrive in April or May 2009.
| | Great role model for breast feeding moms! by M. Cerimele (PA, USA) 5 Stars November 03, 2008 I am a first time mom of one child. I read along to help get tips as I learned to breast feed.
I found everything extremely helpful. Although her strong stance may have bothered some reviewers, I felt that this pro-breastfeeding book exemplified her passion for breastfeeding and its benefits. I think anyone that has breastfed a child would probably encourage others to at least give it a try! Many women cannot breastfeed due to circumstances beyond their control and should not feel badly about that. I know that was not the author's intentions! You need to do what is best for your baby based on the situations you are faced with.
Her perseverance to make breastfeeding successful kept me motivated. It was not an easy start and there were alot of factors against me. I felt that if she could do it with twins, I can certainly try my best to do it with one baby!
