| Immune Regulation and Immunotherapy in Autoimmune Disease by Jingwu Zhang (Editor)
This volume will review the most recent advances in the understanding of cellular and molecular mechanisms for immune responses and immune regulation. Chapters in the first portion of this book will discuss the theoretical basis for current immunotherapies for autoimmune diseases. The second portion of the book will provide an updated review on the research behind the clinical trials/immunotherapies (e.g. T-cell vaccination, antibody therapy, etc.) in the areas of autoimmune diseases by the...

| Mechanisms of Lymphocyte Activation and Immune Regulation XI: B Cell Biology (Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology) (v. 11) by Sudhir Gupta (Editor), Frederick W. Alt (Editor), Max D. Cooper (Editor), Fritz Melchers (Editor), Klaus Rajewsky (Editor)
In recent years, major developments have been made in understanding various genetic and epigenetic regulatory processes that are critical for the generation of B cell repertoires. These include the role of chromatin regulation and nuclear organization in understating the IgH gene regulation. A role and mechanism of DNA repair proteins in somatic hypermutation has been elucidated. Genetic mutation studies have been instrumental in providing insight into some of the mechanisms involved in...

| The Papillomaviruses by Robert L. Garcea (Editor), Daniel DiMaio (Editor)
This volume offers a complete description of the current state of biology concerning the papillomavirus. It evaluates the carcinogenic risk to humans posed by infection with human papillomaviruses (HPVs). To date, more than 70 HPV types have been identified, of which over 15 have been reported in cervical cancer biopsies. Worldwide, cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women, approximately 500,000+ new cases are diagnosed each year. This book also considers the possible...

EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Significant scientific progress has been made in recent years in the aetiopathogenesis of chronic inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), that has changed or will change in the future the diagnostic and therapeutic approach in these diseases. The relevance of classical conventional IBD therapies has been critically re-evaluated under criteria of evidence-based medicine approaches. On the other hand, new therapeutic options have emerged. These include modern immunomodulators, biologics, probiotics, worm eggs and extracorporeal therapies. The clinical relevance of these new modalities is often difficult to assess for physicians who do not work frequently with IBD patients. This book, the proceedings of the Falk Symposium No.153 on ‘Immunoregulation in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases – Current Understanding and Innovation’, held May 6–7, 2006 in Berlin, Germany, critically discusses established and emerging new concepts in the diagnosis and treatment of IBD, reflecting the recent advancements in the aetiopathogenesis of these diseases. Controversial problems, such as the optimal therapeutic strategy (step-up versus top-down), therapy-associated side-effects and optimal control and selection of IBD therapies, are addressed by an internationally-renowned team of authors. The book will be essential reading for both basic scientists and clinicians. |
