Product Description
Ghrelin is a 28-amino acid acylated peptide predominantly produced by the stomach. It displays strong GH-releasing activity mediated by the hypothalamus-pituitary GH secretagogue (GHS)-receptors specific for synthetic GHS. Ghrelin also acts on other central and peripheral receptors and enables other actions including: stimulation of lactotroph and corticotroph secretion; food-intake; gastro-entero-pancreatic functions; metabolic; cardiovascular activity; and anti-proliferative effects. This volume aims to highlight the impact and function of the hormone ghrelin and provide insight to neuroendocrinologies and researchers interested in its molecular and clinical relevance.

As a future ghrelin expert.... by M Matz (PA) 4 Stars

I am currently writing my doctoral dissertation on ghrelin and I appreciated reading this book (cover to cover) to gain a historical perspective on ghrelin. I really only study the metabolic effects which were not as fleshed out as some other topics, but the book serves as a nice overview as to the many functions of ghrelin. The book is somewhat dated now, written in 2004 since ghrelin was only discovered and named in 1999. Also there is some conflicting information because so many authors provide their own perspectives, but overall I think a very useful book for those interested in learning more about ghrelin.
