Very helpful not only for raising twins, but babies in general by Dee (Boston, MA) 5 Stars
October 27, 2009
This is the second book I read on the subject of raising twins, and I wish I had read it first. I do not have older children, and it was very helpful for me to learn tips not only about raising twins, but also babies in general. Some topics were a bit annoying - the diaper party idea in the second chapter almost made me stop reading the book, so it is probably not a good idea to start the book that way - but later chapters proved very useful. I was especially happy about helpful pictures and descriptions of how exactly to do certain things (swaddle a baby or create a feeding schedule). However, if you already have a good sense for how to handle a baby, you may find the explanations too long. (I did not.) I also enjoyed the humor and the author's writing style.

very entertaining by J. Baldwin (California, USA) 5 Stars

I'm about half-way thru the book now so I thought I could write a review. I'm due in 8 weeks with my first babies...twin girls. Twins as your first children is pretty overwhelming so I thought I'd better study up on it. :o) I found this book to be an easy read and quite entertaining. Some parts didn't apply to me...such as the section on hiring help since we could never afford to do that, so I just skipped it, but all in all I have found this book to be very helpful.

This is the one you need by C. T. Coombs (Australia) 5 Stars

Yep, this is the best book on twins. I read it first through my local library but ended up having to buy it because it is so useful. It offers realistic advice and is not at all patronising about the daunting prospect of caring for twins. Couldnt recommend it more.

Overall not helpful by Ailix (Sydney, Australia) 2 Stars

Some people like this really chatty, breezy style of book but it wasn't working at all for me. There are some good tidbits in there but I was looking for a book that would help me feel calmer about having twins - listening to someone who sounds completely frazzled doesn't do that. I don't think the content makes up for it as many of the tips I don't feel are appropriate for me anyway.

Helpful but also ridiculous at points by Kellie L. Mcguire (Watertown, CT USA) 3 Stars

I am expecting twins later this year and was eager to read this book in preparation for their arrival. Some of this book had good advice, but like another reviewer, I had a very hard time dealing with the notion that one should hire overnight help. In my middle-class, stay-at-home mom world, that's just a ridiculous expense. Do I think it will be easy for my husband and I to do it on my own? No, but I also don't think it's impossible. Not everyone has $250 to through away per night on a night nanny. Also, expecting everyone who walks to through the door to help is ridiculous. People come to visit, not put on an apron, as helpful as that might be to me. Plus, having a "diaper" party is also a high expectation as well. I know one relative who asked each baby shower attendee to bring a pack of diapers in addition to a gift, and you should have heard the rumblings through the family about that added expense. So I would never ask anyone to contribute that. That said, some advice in the book was helpful: keeping a schedule, using a crockpot and preparing meals, etc. I've only read one other "twins" book, but I'm sure I will be scoping out a few more after this one.
