EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description A new edition of the revolutionary bestseller, with four million copies in print. Allen Carr’s innovative Easyway method—which he discovered after his own 100-cigarette-a-day habit nearly drove him to despair—has helped millions kick smoking without feeling anxious and deprived. That’s because he helps smokers discover the psychological reasons behind their dependency, explains in detail how to handle the withdrawal symptoms, shows them how to avoid situations when temptation might become too strong, and enables them to stay smoke-free. Carr discusses such issues as nicotine addiction; the social “brainwashing” that encourages smoking; the false belief that a cigarette relieves stress; the role boredom plays in sabotaging efforts to stop; and the main reasons for failure. With this proven program, smokers will be throwing away their packs for good. |

| | It only works if you believe in yourself that you can quit by Daniel Fong (Honolulu, HI) 5 Stars October 29, 2009 First of all, your mindset has to be set on quitting. You really need to believe in yourself that you can quit. You cannot expect a miracle to happen after reading this book. 2/3 of the book discusses on everything about cigarettes and the nicotine that makes it addicting. The last 1/3 of the book tells you the method on how to quit. He kind of repeats himself in the book a few times, most likely he is trying to help you get the word across so you won't forget a few things. I find myself rereading this book a few times to help me memorize his methods.
Basically how I would summarize this book in my own words on how to quit cigarettes is this.
-Tell yourself that you don't need it anymore and that you are done with it.
-Make a plan to quit and find the time where it is not stressful, like a vacation.
-There's nothing good about cigarettes.
-Nicotine is highly addicting which is why it is so hard for everyone else to quit.
-Even if your doctor prescribes you nicotine substitutes, it will not control addiction and will make things just as bad as smoking a cigarette. Nicotine substitutes promote a "positive feedback" loop in your body which is the continuing cycle of craving nicotine. The cycle will not stop until you stop putting nicotine in your body.
-Just one cigarette will put you back to where you started smoking if you decide to smoke one after quitting for so long. So don't do it, there's nothing good that will come out of it.
-Willpower is not the way to quit. It will make you argue with yourself and make you disappointed when you slip. People who use the willpower method make themselves believe that something will happen when they stop smoking. These people will wait for days, weeks, months, and even years and nothing will happen. This mindset will not work and will possibly end up making you want a cigarette even if it's just one cigarette.
-People fail to quit because they believe they failed. If you believe you can quit then you will. You must build your self-esteem in order for you to believe in yourself.
-If you think this book is a joke, good luck trying to find other ways to quit. Because there isn't any other way.
-If you have friends and family that smokes, let them know your intentions that you are quitting and have them support you. If a friend makes you smoke, he/she is not supporting you and you should be upset at them. Peers are probably the second biggest reason why people smoke. The first reason is you.
-Picture your life without cigarettes. You'll save a lot money, you'll live healthier, and you'll look forward to a better future.
Don't hesitate to buy this book if you want to quit smoking. Let your friends and family know about this. I kind of wish there was a cantonese version of this book. Most of my friends and family are smokers and they can't seem to quit like how I did.
| | It Really Works! I tweaked it just a bit. by The Honey Bee (Crossville, TN United States) 5 Stars October 27, 2009 I don't know how many articles and books I read about stopping smoking, so I didn't really expect anything new or different with this book. I read the book first, before I made the commitment to stop. It made perfect sense to me after I read it, that I really could quit. I chose my quit date and read the book again. He says you do not need gum, patches, or pills. I went straight to my doctor and got a prescription for Zyban and went to the drugstore and bought a box of Step 2 Nicoderm patches and stopped smoking. I put them down, used 6 weeks of patches and 1 bottle of pills and never picked up another cigarette since day one. That was 10 months ago. I admit, I might have not had total faith in myself to do it without the nicotine replacement patch and the Zyban, but the way he explains quitting in the book is what got my head in the right place to put smoking behind me. It is a totally different way of looking at smoking and what makes one think one needs to smoke. The book made me see that I didn't Need to smoke, but that I Needed to quit and how to be successful in quitting. I didn't follow the plan to the letter, but I would never have stopped without this information. You won't believe how simple it is, but-like me, you may want to read it a couple of times before you set your date. It really was easy!
| | The Easy Way To Stop Smoking by D. Kraus 5 Stars October 24, 2009 This book worked for me, which means it can work for anybody!!! I still can't believe I'm now a non-smoker. I smoked for nearly 50 yrs. and thankfully, I am totally healthy. If it hadn't been for this book, I know without a doubt that I would still be puffing away. I've been a non-smoker for 14 months and I feel great. I did NOT gain any weight and had NO withdrawal problems. If you are ready to quit, this book will do it, don't hesitate to buy it.
