Definitely recommend for Cyto rotations by Antibody_x (Minnesota) 5 Stars

I used this book's prior edition as a resident but didn't buy it b/c I knew a newer edition was in the works. The newer edition is lighter (on account of using thinner paper) but has better pictures and is including the highlight review points now seen in other Elsevier titles (Foundation series). The expert consult (aka online feature) is a good bonus when you don't have the book around but in my experience, accessing it has sometimes been cumbersome (server issues?). If you have to decide between this and the baby DeMay, I recommend this one as the DeMay is still too wordy in my opinion. Plus if you are headed towards a cyto fellowship the last chapter makes sense of all that lab administration lingo they test on cyto boards.

Good, but annoying by Big Apple (NY) 5 Stars

I bought this book because I am just returning to the field after a two year hiatus and needed a refresher. The book is good... its a quick read and I like that it is up to the minute and includes some neat stuff too like FISH. I agree with other reviewers in that the bulleted points are great, except that the authors got entirely too carried away with acronyms!!!! Im trying to skim through the highlights, I read the bullet points and then wind up flipping all over to find out what the acronyms stand for! grrrrr.

Excellent for cytopathology practice and exams by Frank Chen (USA) 5 Stars

This book is concise enough to read through. In the meantime, it covers all the importent facts! The highlighted diagnostic criteria are helpful for you to memorize. If you want to buy only one cytopathology book during your pathology residency, this book is the one to choose. Frank Chen Cytopathologist

Don't think..just buy it..you will never regret it!! by Doctor (NY, USA) 5 Stars

One of the best books in cytology...The books is comprehensive in an amazing way...it is a small book but covers everything...even the lab management/administration in cytology labs!! (which may not find in other books!!) ..has many tables to summerize the important points and the features of each lesion...very nice pictures....If you a resident or fellow in cytopathology, buy this book without even thinking!!! it is really worthy it...However, if you are a practicing pathologist, you may need something more advanced but you definitely will not regret it..

great review book! by pathkid (birmingham, AL) 5 Stars
March 29, 2006
I got this in lieu of the baby deMay for study for path boards. I think it's pretty good as a solid review for cytology as it covers pertinent general features of major organ systems. Pictures are super clean and very clear (some with even arrows!!) CONS: ok, here we go. Not every entity described has a coresponding picture. I hate that. If you go to the trouble writing about a certain tumor for half a page...put in a photo or something of it. This happens about 5% of the time in this book. The text is really concise and valuable. SO, don't expect an indepth discussion regarding various staining patterns or molecular etiologies. Kinda pricey...if it were $99 it be perfect. OR if it came with a picture CD/atlas with MORE pictures that be great. PROS: the format is great. For a disease entity, you get brief text(like 100words), a clear box with a few morphology bullet points, and then a clean picture with description(and arrows!)...NEXT disease...It's a quick review no nonsense format and I like it alot. Has a mini Lab Management section in the back in the skinnys about regulations, billing, and personnel...pretty good actually. Conclusion: I think this is great for review. Certainly the baby deMay and Atkinsons text are the gold standards for board review, especially since she used to be the board chair and supposedly used her cyto picts in the test. If you already have these books, then I guess dont bother unless you got book fund money to blow. Overall, I recommend this.
