| books by Bruce G. Collier (USA-Florida) 5 Stars November 10, 2009 Predators: A Pop-up Book with Revolutionary Technology

| | Predators by Charles Haseltine (Santa Rosa, CA, USA) 4 Stars May 22, 2009 This is a lovely book, full of delightful surprises and exquisite artwork. It is definitely not a book that one gives to a child under 8 or 9 years without adult supervision because of the delicate, complicated nature of the pop-up artwork which is easily mangled.
| | Amazing Craftsmanship by T. Leyvas (AZ, USA) 5 Stars January 29, 2009 I bought this for my 6 year old nephew, it's a little advanced for him but I think he will really enjoy it when he get a little bit older and has more patience. I think the adults were more entertained by it then the kids. Great pictures and amazing pop-ups; it's unlike anything I have even seen before.
| | Spiders and Tigers and Bears! Oh My! by Bucky (Haunted Mansion, The Magic Kingdom) 5 Stars January 18, 2009 This pop-up book is breathtaking! I have gone through it more than a dozen times and each time I see something new or interesting, either in its information or in its construction. Each turn of the page reveals a dazzling new three-D pop-up animal, starting with a rather alarming spider (if you're afraid of spiders and unprepared) and continuing on through, tigers, eagles, crocodiles and polar bears. Each page includes a large pop-up and several smaller pop-ups or pull-tabs that contain tidbits of information. I loved the small pop-ups that featured a lonely eagle's nest and that demonstrated the differences between crocodiles and alligators. The informational content has a pronounced environmental tilt, particularly when explaining the effect that human activities have on each animal's habitat and the ways in which man threatens the animal's survival as a species. I didn't find this too heavy-handed, it's not unreasonable to explain to children why polar bears and tigers may die out during their lifetimes. This book would make a great gift for older children, say, eight and up. Younger kids should definitely enjoy it in the company of an adult as some of the pop-ups need a bit of assistance, and protection from little fingers.
| | A safe way to meet scary animals by mojosmom (Chicago, IL USA) 4 Stars January 09, 2009 With five large, and a multitude of small, pop-ups (not to mention lots of pull tabs), this book is action-packed. It's also packed with information about the spiders, eagles, tigers, crocodiles and polar bears that are its subjects.
The pop-us are really wonderful! A spider dangles from its web, an eagle descends through clouds to catch a luckless fish. Smaller pop-ups show the difference between alligators and crocodiles, or the den of a pregnant polar bear. I'd have given the book 5 stars, except that I did not care for the fact that the tiger pop-up doesn't actually pop-up, but requires one to insert tabs in slots.
Excellent as the pop-ups are, I don't see any "revolutionary technology". The techniques used, while well-done and used to good effect, I've seen in many other pop-up books.
