Product Description
Nic Sheff was drunk for the first time at age eleven. In the years that followed, he would regularly smoke pot, do cocaine and Ecstasy, and develop addictions to crystal meth and heroin. Even so, he felt like he would always be able to quit and put his life together whenever he needed to. It took a violent relapse one summer in California to convince him otherwise. In a voice that is raw and honest, Nic spares no detail in telling us the compelling, heartbreaking, and true story of his relapse and the road to recovery. As we watch Nic plunge the mental and physical depths of drug addiction, he paints a picture for us of a person at odds with his past, with his family, with his substances, and with himself. It's a harrowing portrait -- but not one without hope.

Courageously honest, deeply moving by Celia Bauer (St. Michaels, MD, USA) 5 Stars

I read Tweak after reading Beautiful Boy, which is also fabulous. The thought of needles makes me queasy so I wasnt sure if I would get through this book. For the first third of the book, while he is using, it was horribly dark, disturbing reading and I wondered if I even wanted to finish it. But I'm SO glad I did. I went from feeling like I could not relate to Nic and didn't like him in the beginning, but by the end, I held the book to my chest in tears and LOVED THIS GUY. I'm not an addict, but I am a human being and I could totally relate to so many of his insecurities and struggles. We are all such tender little beans inside. I was also stunned by his courage to write so honestly about his journey. Nic Sheff has got guts and I am so grateful to him for sharing his story. I have so much more compassion and understanding for addicts now. We humans are all so much more alike than we are different. Bless you, Nic Sheff, and keep writing!

As a professional health care provider I highly recommend this to those who are interested in what makes an addict tick. After 22 years in the field and all the stories that have been shared with me, I gained many new insights as I read this rivoting account of addiction.

Shockingly honest account of addiction by Karen S. Simpson (San Diego, CA United States) 4 Stars

I read Nic Sheff's book after reading his father David Sheff's book, Beautiful Boy, to get both perspectives on opposing sides of how addiction affects families and relationships. Both books were full of alarming honesty most of which was shocking. I applaud both father and son for sharing their stories and baring their souls in both books. Addiction affects my life and I recommend both books to those close to me. They offer introspection into the heartache and triumphs of the lifetime fight of addiction. I HIGHLY recommend both books to anyone who is interested, especially to anyone whose life has been affected by any drug addiction.

"Tweak" by Nic Sheff grabs your attention immediately. Nic takes you through a graphic and detailed, but captivating story of his drug addiction, relapse, and relationship problems. The main problem with the book is Nic's need to constantly stress his connections to celebrities. Although Nic changes names for privacy reasons, he makes up for this by stressing just how important the celebrities with whom he mingles with are, which gets annoying easily. Secondly, part two of the book is not as exciting as the first part, and tends to drag in certain parts. Overall though, the book is extremely interesting and is a great depiction of what an addict goes through while using and recovering from using drugs. The few cons of the book are made up for by the very exciting areas of the novel.

"Tweak" by Nic Sheff - Growing Up on Methamphetamines. Just finished "Beautiful Boy" by David Sheff - drug addiction from the parents' of point of view. Tweak is from the addicts perspective - part one talks about how bad addiction gets. Part two deals with Recovery - Nic has a hard time with the "god" concept and relying on a 'higher power' . This book is very well written and gives a first-hand account of everything he has to go through.
