| Mechanics of Elastic Composites (Modern Mathematics and Mechanics) by Nicolaie Dan Cristescu (Author), Eduard-Marius Craciun (Author), Eugen Soós (Author)
Composite materials play a fundamental role in many modern engineering applications and have been the focus of much research and development in recent years. Mechanics of Elastic Composites is a comprehensive, reader-friendly treatment of the theory that provides the foundation for these materials. Beginning with an introductory review of tensor calculus and the fundamentals of linear elastostatics, the authors explore the advanced, three-dimensional theory of elastic composites, from the...

EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Responding to the need for a single reference source on the design and applications of composites, Composite Materials: Design and Applications, Second Edition provides an authoritative examination of the composite materials used in current industrial applications and delivers much needed practical guidance to those working in this rapidly developing area of engineering. This updated second edition extends its coverage to include original methods of analysis for various types of materials such as composite beams. The authors now also include an entire chapter devoted to thick laminated composites. The first section describes the properties, fabrication process, and applications of composite materials. The second section describes the mechanics of composites, such as the elastic anisotropic properties and mechanical properties of thin laminates. The third section discusses orthotropic coefficients that may be used for design, including the Hill-Tsai failure criterion. The final section provides 40 case studies with complete solutions that illustrate the types of challenges encountered in modern engineering practice. This timely resource delivers unique analysis and design solutions needed to conceptualize and design components made from composites. It is an indispensable guide for students and practicing engineers working with composite materials. |
CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 4.0 based on 4 reviews)
| Almost Perfect by D. Mason 4 Stars July 06, 2009 I used to work in the aerospace structures business as an engineer and marketer. I have found this book to be very thorough and it covers the material in significant detail. I have found, in a couple spots, what I think are omissions of definitions for variables in the equations. When I look at an equation I want to be able to easily trace the meaning of each variable and that has been a challenge in one or two spots in this book. I understand that it has been translated from its original language and, perhaps, this is a result from that translation. Would I buy this book again? Certainly! It's a great text on the subject and an excellent investment for one looking to do design, analysis, or manufacture of composite structures.
| | Has example calculations by Mr. George R. Muscat 4 Stars February 18, 2008 This is one of the only composite text books that I have used the actually has example calculations, rather than just theory. Attempting examples gives confidence to the reader that they have understood the theory.
It does not cover the theory and manufacture in as much detail as other textbooks, but I would recommend it by even by itself. Combined with another text that covers theory and manufacture in more detail, it is perfect.
| | Technical by Jason D. Rushing (Florida) 2 Stars January 26, 2007 This book was beyond my scope, but I believe would be well suited for someone more focused on the math/engineering side of composites. Lots of formulas in this book.
| | Excellent Resourch for Students and Working Engineers 5 Stars June 05, 2003 This book an excellent source of information regarding composite manufacturing, design and analysis. I used it in a graduate-level composites course and have continued to use it in my daily work as an engineer at Boeing. The book was well thought out and you can't really tell it was translated from French (I was reluctant about that before I bought it). I'd highly reccommend this book for anyone wanting to learn more about composite materials. This book has something for everyone: designer, analyst, project manager, etc.
