CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 2.5 based on 3 reviews)
| Very good by Mike 4 Stars February 09, 2009 I bought this book to study for the Cardiology Boards. Since it is the first edition I didn't know if it would help. After taking the board exam I can say that this is a very good review book to study from. Many questions were very similar to the ones I encountered in the exam so it helped me a lot. Needless to say I passed the board!! One thing I didn't like is that some questions have multiple answers contrary to the board where you choose the best answer. Over all I recommend this book.
| | Sub-par by Austin Flint (New York, NY) 1 Stars November 09, 2008 Does not live up to the Mayo name. Questions and answers are poor, and not reflective of board questions. Certainly not worth the money.
| | Try Again by Keith A. Comess 2 Stars May 14, 2008 This book of certification examination type questions was assembled by various Mayo Clinic cardiology fellows with sub-specialty interests in, for example, electrophysiology and cardiac imaging. The book was edited by two faculty members.
The questions were of variable quality, reflecting inattentive editing. Often, the authors veered into pedantics and arcana; this was especially evident in the EP section of the book.
Board questions tend to be heavily weighted toward clinical cardiology, with an emphasis on physical exam data. Study of this book would leave the prospective exam taker ill prepared for this type of question.
In summary, this book is a weak effort, particularly given the generally outstanding didactics in cardiovascular diseases characteristic of the Mayo section. It might be a useful adjunct, but heavy reliance on this book will likely leave the applicant poorly prepared for the actual examination.
