EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description In the chronicles of television's history, Rod Serling's Twilight Zone is considered by far the medium's quintessential creation. The CBS series that debuted in 1959 and aired for 156 episodes offered black-and-white morality plays both terrifying and poignant. Each week the ominous voice and brilliant mind of writer Serling took audiences on a trip through his surrealist realm of fantasy and science fiction, beyond the boundaries of imagination. Dimensions Behind the Twilight Zone is a visually stunning backstage glimpse through time and space, into the history and making of the Twilight Zone. Author Stewart T. Stanyard, creator of The Twilight Zone Archives online, invites readers to explore a portion of the archives collection: over 300 original behind-the-scenes production stills taken during the filming of the show. Accompanied by insightful captions, the book includes rare documents and interviews with 40 alumni, including producers, directors, writers, and actors who worked on the series, such as Dennis Weaver, Billy Mumy, Shelly Berman, Earl Holliman, and Earl Hammer, Jr. The book also features candid interviews with Serling's wife Carol, brother and writer Robert, and Serling's influential teacher Helen Foley. Aside from five informative and analytical chapters by the author, it features tribute essays by several Hollywood personalities, including Rush drummer Neil Peart, Simpsons producer Dana Gould, and Star Trek: Next Generation writer Robert Hewitt Wolfe. Stewart T. Stanyard is a board member for the Rod Serling Memorial Foundation, and the creator of The Twilight Zone Archives, a non-profit organization featuring enough Twilight Zone and Serling materials to fill a museum. He lives in Northern California. |

| Absorbing, fascinating look into another dimension of...The Twilight Zone by Niel Rishoi (Ann Arbor, MI USA) 5 Stars September 01, 2009 Stewart Stanyard has done us TZ fans a priceless service by researching, putting together, and writing this book. If you're a rabid fan of the series like me, you will have hogged it up in one evening. This impressive series of essays, commentaries, interviews and anecdotes fill in so many of the blanks that all of us were always curious about - what went on behind the scenes, impressions and considerable feedback on all aspects concerned of the show. Stanyard takes a reverential, respectful and thoroughly engaging approach, as well as a guided seriousness in this undertaking. The best place to read it is in bed, at night, and you're once again taken into another dimension (sorry I couldn't resist). Stanyard's achievement is all the more marked in light of the fact that many of the forces, actors and so forth involved have passed into...another dimension (OK enough already). The author has admirably expanded upon Marc Scott Zicree's groundbreaking book, "The Twilight Zone" companion, and laudably, takes a more expansive, all-encompassing view than Zicree's often harsh criticism (the book was marred by too-frequent dismissals of some very fine episodes).
Stanyard has done perhaps the ultimate service to "The Twilight Zone": he's provided us with what most likely will be, the most authoritative final thoughts possible. I can't recommend it more highly.
| | Great book on the Twilight Zone! by Dean Gustafson 5 Stars August 08, 2009 The author is clearly tuned into the Zone, and it's a good thing he put out this fine book filled with genuine enthusiasm, insight into the shows creation, and a grand bunch of fine behind-the-scene photos. There are plenty of good accounts by those associated with the production of TZ, in addition to the authors expressive writing that will make you re-live the series with a refreshed mind about it. I thoroughly enjoyed this easy to recommend book. You can't go wrong with this one!
| | For fans of the series by A. Them 4 Stars August 07, 2009 While photos are very good, the text can be gushy. Many associated with Twilight Zone -- actors, directors, producers -- offer their favorable impressions of Rod Serling. Worth having.
| | A Fine Companion to the "Companion" by E. Olague (San Jose, CA) 4 Stars May 15, 2009 This collection features priceless photos and interviews. And it's an easy read.
It's not a complete experience though, as it's not a guide. There's no episode breakdown like you might expect, but it should be paired together with the legendary Companion. It complements and ammends that famous book with satisfying results.
| | "Dementions Behind The Twilight Zone" by Captain Kirk (Space the final fronteer) 5 Stars April 09, 2009 WOW! I couldn't put this book down until I finished it.
Fantastic insights into the making of an epic TV program and the mind that created it.

Not only is the book an exhaustive episode-by-episode guide, but the author apparently interviewed every living soul who was ever associated...
