EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description From the award-winning author of the best books on puberty — A completely new book written especially for 8-11-year-old girls, playfully illustrated in an appealing, two-color design. Young girls before the onset of puberty have a curiosity about their soon-to-be changing bodies that needs addressing in a simpler way than for their older sisters. In the proven, trust-worthy, Madaras-friendly voice and style, this entirely new book now brings them the same kind of thoughtful, down-to-earth information—but at a reading and understanding level that's just right for them. Responding throughout to real-life questions and observations from younger girls, Madaras explores the strange and thrilling changes that are happening, or about to happen, to them, including: the development of breasts, body hair, and body fat; the changes in their reproductive organs, both inside and out; their first period and all the complex feelings surrounding it; the unwelcome appearance of acne and new body odors; and, perhaps most important, how to respect and celebrate their unique bodies, even when the outside world is not always so accepting. Lively cartoon drawings throughout make the book not only helpful, but fun to read, too. |

| GREAT BOOK for reading at night with daughter!!! by Laura D. Kelly (Georgia, USA) 5 Stars November 06, 2009 We had a blast reading a couple of chapters every night and the girls couldn't wait to go to bed early and cuddle up to read about the changes in their body!!!!!
They especially enjoyed taking turns reading, giggling and looking forward to growing up. Highly recommend this book - only skipped one page where it eluded to safe sex; otherwise good, clean fun without any suggestions except to WAIT!
| | Very helpful by Glorianne Tillman (Augusta, Ga. USA) 5 Stars August 12, 2009 The book arrived very quickly, in less days than predicted. It was in good condition. The information was very helpful in aiding me in teaching my daughter about puberty. I would recommend mother's using this as a tool when the time is right to teach your daughter about this very important step in her life.
| | Perfect for my little girl by M. Pressley (NJ, USA) 5 Stars June 29, 2009 This is a very well written book that any parent can read together with their child. My daughter is 9yrs old and is already showing signs of puberty and so I wanted an easy way to talk to her about the changes that her body was now going through and that would not leave either one of us feeling awkward!! This book made the talk easy and definately did the job!!
| | Ready, Set, Grow by S. Ciesielski (Omaha, NE USA) 5 Stars April 16, 2009 I purchased 7 books about puberty to read before determining which ones I wanted to give to my 10 year old daughter. This was by far my favorite. This book covers: puberty, breast development, body hair, height, weight, body odor, pimples, vulva, reproductive organs, menstrual cycle, and respecting your boday.
I love this book because it discusses puberty with a lot of helpful pictures without getting into the topic of sex. I think this is a perfect starting poing for my daughter. I don't want to overwhelm her with too much information at once.
There was one page that I ripped out because it talked about masterbation. It was on a Q&A page so it won't even be missed. I think this is a topic for later discussion.
I highly recommend this book. Minus the one page.
| | Book speaks for you to break the ice by J. Frendy (Greensburg , PA USA) 5 Stars January 28, 2009 Ready, Set, Grow!: A What's Happening to My Body? Book for Younger Girls (Purchased on 12/26/2008)
by Lynda Madaras
My daughter is 9 and in the 3rd grade. I told her it was time to start discussing what would happen to her body soon. She said,"No!I don't want to talk about this!" so I decided to purchase a book for her so it was less embarassing. I told her when she was ready she could read through and at anytime she had a question,I would be more than happy to explain something to her. I tossed the book on her bed and left her room. Later that evening, she closed her door and read the book. She never said anything about it to me. Last weekend she went to a birthday sleepover. Tonight she came out with a training bra on which surprised me. She said,"This is too small Mom,can we get a new one?" I replied "Sure, but I thought you said NO WAY was I wearing a Bra." She told me that the girls at her sleepover had them on,so I suppose she believes that it is OK to wear one. I do believe this book has really helped her overcome her bashful attitude on this subject. I certainly would recommend to break the ice.
