EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Published to acclaim and controversy a decade ago, Sperm Wars is a revolutionary thesis about sex that turned centuries-old biological assumptions on their head. Evolution has programmed men to conquer and monopolize women while women, without ever knowing they are doing it, seek the best genetic input on offer from potential sexual partners. In this book, best-selling author Robin Baker reveals these new facts of life: ten percent of children are not fathered by their "fathers;" less than one percent of a man’s sperm is capable of fertilizing anything (the rest is there to fight off all other men’s sperm); "smart" vaginal mucus encourages some sperm but blocks others; and a woman is far more likely to conceive through a casual fling than through sex with her regular partner. It’s no wonder that Sperm Wars is a classic of popular science writing that will surprise, entertain, and even shock. |
CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 4.5 based on 18 reviews)
| excellent book by Grace Defloreis (New York) 5 Stars September 01, 2009 Author has done some thorough research on the science of sperm war. His writing is engaging and easy to read. In truth, the book could have been reduced a few 50 pages or so at the end, as I feel he tends to ramble about the same subject to fill up space. However, the concepts and innovative thought concur with recent reproductive science. An excellent writer, highly recommnended.
| | meh by olz (Charlotte,NC) 2 Stars August 12, 2009 I was hoping for something along the lines of "The Moral Animal." This book cites no sources, too much fluff, and seems like just hypothesis. I'm aware that he says that another book he published had the sources and research but that's what I thought I was buying.
| | GREAT by DIGlassworks (Oregon) 5 Stars June 26, 2009 Very informative book. I learned so much that I would've never guessed. The fictional stories in the book are well written and hot too!
| | Infidelity academically defined by Jude Nguyen (Cali) 5 Stars February 20, 2009 The book is mind boggling. The book compels you to question what you believe determines human sexuality. For the faint of heart or sensitive ones, this book is not for the faint of heart. Covers controversial topics like cheating on your spouse behind his/her back, or if you're a women, being inseminated with a person you're cheating with while your partner is stuck raising a child that is not his! I recommend this read. I read almost half now, and I can't put the book down.
| | Very informative by Annick De Zutter (israel) 5 Stars February 12, 2009 This book is well researched and alternates between enticing stories and scientific explanations. A must read!
