Product Description
Completely revised and updated, Treatment Wetlands, Second Edition is still the most comprehensive resource available for the planning, design, and operation of wetland treatment systems. The book addresses the design, construction, and operation of wetlands for water pollution control. It presents the best current procedures for sizing these systems, and describing the intrinsic processes that combine to quantify performance. The Second Edition covers:New methods based on the latest researchWastewater characterization and regulatory framework analyses leading to detailed design and economicsState-of-the-art procedures for analyzing hydraulics, hydrology, substrates and wetlands biogeochemistryDefinition of performance expectations for traditional pollutants such as solids, oxygen demand, nutrients and pathogens, as well as for metals and a wide variety of individual organic and inorganic chemicalsDiscussion of methods of configuration, construction, and vegetation establishment and startup considerationsAncillary benefits of human use and wildlife habitatSpecific examples of numerous applicationsExtensive reference base of current informationThe book provides a complete reference that includes: detailed information on wetland ecology, design for consistent performance, construction guidance and operational control through effective monitoring. Case histories of operational wetland treatment systems illustrate the variety of design approaches presented allowing you to tailor them to the needs of your wetlands treatment projects. The sheer amount of information found in Treatment Wetlands, Second Edition makes it the resource you will turn to again and again.

Very Thorough by Carolina Casaril (Brisbane, Australia) 5 Stars
September 10, 2009
A very very thorough review of all things treatment wetlands. Those searching for help as to what to DO (whether in design or measurement) may find themselves overwhelmed with details. With the ability to select vital information out of this book, it becomes a one-stop-shop for all things wetland to this point.

This text is a very comprehensive book on how to design wetlands for a variety of pollutants. Very Thorough.

Comprehensive Reference 5 Stars

An outstanding volume. Extrememly well organized and comprehensive. Aimed at serious practitioner or professional engineer needing quantitative methods and process understanding. This is more than an engineering design manual - a thorough extremely well organized treatment of treatment wetlands. Restoration scientists and practitioners using simple "permanent pools" in stormwater wetlands will benefit from the wetland science and process engineering organized here into the best current reference available.

Biogeochemistry of Wetlands: Science and Applications

Biogeochemistry of Wetlands: Science and Applications
by K. Ramesh Reddy (Author), Ronald D. DeLaune (Author)

Wetland ecosystems maintain a fragile balance of soil, water, plant, and atmospheric components in order to regulate water flow, flooding, and water quality. Marginally covered in traditional texts on biogeochemistry or on wetland soils, Biogeochemistry of Wetlands is the first to focus entirely on the biological, geological, physical, and chemical processes that affect these critical habitats.

Integrates concepts from soil and plant sciences, chemistry, biology, ecology, and...

Constructed Wetlands in the Sustainable Landscape

Constructed Wetlands in the Sustainable Landscape
by Craig S. Campbell (Author), Michael Ogden (Author)

Constructed wetlands are man-made marshes—gravel beds filled with growing plants—that function as natural wastewater treatment plants. Due to their more pleasing aesthetics and their cost effectiveness, they are being chosen over traditional processing plants around the world. While other books have outlined how to build constructed wetlands, this book goes the next step as well, outlining the design and planning techniques to make these wetlands attractive and natural looking as well.

Praise for the previous editions of Wetlands:

"Wetlands, the field of study, would not be what it is without Wetlands, the book."
——Bill Streever, Wetlands, 2001

"The Third Edition of this highly successful book manages to set new standards in presentation and content to confirm its place as the first point of reference for those working or studying wetlands."

Small Scale Constructed Wetland Treatment Systems: Feasibility, Design Criteria and O&M Requirements (Werf Reports)

Small Scale Constructed Wetland Treatment Systems: Feasibility, Design Criteria and O&M Requirements (Werf Reports)
by S D Wallace (Author), R L Knight (Author)

The expanding use of decentralized wastewater management has resulted in an increased interest in small-scale wetland treatment systems. However, there is limited information available on the use, distribution of and performance of these small-scale systems. The purpose of this study was to address this knowledge gap by developing criteria for the feasibility, design, operation, and maintenance of small-scale wetland treatment systems. Information on 1,789 existing small-scale wetland...

Wastewater Treatment in Constructed Wetlands with Horizontal Sub-Surface Flow (Environmental Pollution)

Wastewater Treatment in Constructed Wetlands with Horizontal Sub-Surface Flow (Environmental Pollution)
by Jan Vymazal (Author), Lenka Kröpfelová (Author)

Constructed wetlands with horizontal sub-surface flow (HF CWs) have been used for wastewater treatment for more than four decades. HF CWs are used around the world for many types of wastewater, including municipal sewage, agricultural and industrial wastewaters, runoff waters, wastewaters containing endocrine-disrupting chemicals, and landfill leachate. This book fills a gap in the literature by providing an extensive, worldwide overview of this treatment technology. Special attention is paid...
