EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Just imagine this: a friend gives you a ring to look at. She tells you that it has been in her family for generations. Suddenly, your mind is filled with images. Births and marriages, lovers and deathbeds, infants and the aged. You describe the images and your friend looks at you in shock. Everything you said was part of her family history. How could you have known? This wasn't luck. It was an actual skill called psychometry. And as with all skills, you can do exercises to improve it. Now you can learn how to enhance this ability and many others in William W. Hewitt's Psychic Development for Beginners. Using more than 25 examples and 44 easy but potent mental exercises, you'll learn to develop all of your psychic abilities. Psychometry is just one of them. Other skills you'll learn include psychic healing, telepathy (mental communication with others), clairvoyance, communication with the spirit world, prophecy, astral travel and creative visualization. Psychic abilities can be very practical, too. The book explains how to use your psychic abilities to develop a psychic alarm clock that can wake you up at any time you desire, keep you from falling asleep at the wrong time, or even help you find a parking place. |

| | Cardio for Brains by Diana F. Von Behren (Kenner, LA USA) 3 Stars October 21, 2009 In `Psychic Development for Beginners: An Easy Guide to Developing and Releasing Your Psychic Abilities,' psychic and hypno-therapist, William Hewitt writes an extremely easy book to read on an interesting subject which he claims everyone innately possesses in some degree. Training is key to developing this ability, but more so is to understand the mechanism and science that lies behind the power of the human brain and the health benefits that will be accrued.
Hewitt offers rudimentary information with regard to the actual science behind developing the skills he discusses and exemplifies. He explains the benefit of lowering the brain's operating frequency in a manner that I propose is similar to that of health and wellness practitioners who have proven that the key to good corporeal health is in lowering our resting heart rate through diet and exercise. The brain needs its own brand of exercise that like beneficial cardio for the heart through repetition allows the brain to function more optimally with less work. Hewitt describes the various brainwave states as discovered by Hans Berger, the first person to record electroencephalograms in 1929 and introduces a series of preliminary exercises that will enable the frequent practitioner to achieve the all important alpha and theta states. For the curious reader who needs a little more information regarding this science, I recommend an older book entitled "Megabrain" by Michael Hutchison that allows a more detailed comprehension of pioneering brain research.
Most of Hewitt's book consists of visualization exercises that firstly develop the five senses and then moves on to what he calls the basic psychic level. Depending on your innate creativity and ability to envision within your mind's mental screen, the perfect execution of these first exercises could take many months to achieve. Once this occurs however, Hewitt believes it is extremely important to protect oneself with what a spiritual teacher of mine calls the "canopy of light." Another spiritual friend invites the presence of Archangel Michael to spiritually protect her. Another prays to God to encircle her in white light. Nevertheless, however you perceive this psychic armor, the idea of surrounding oneself with positive energy is the one imperative step that cannot be omitted as the encroachment of anything negative can overwhelm and make one ill. In addition, right-mindedness also reigns supreme when moving forward to the next series of exercises that focus on visualization, healing, clairvoyance, divination, astral travel, issues in the past and the future and the handling of many other quotidian events that once dealt with can allow one to create the kind of life about which he/she dreams. Again practice make perfect.
Like many other books of this nature, Hewitt includes many affirmations of the techniques described, some of which are vague and most of which just invoke the technique employed to reach the basic psychic level. Keeping in mind that attaining alpha and theta states helps the body to heal should be reason enough to develop the skills he mentions.
Hewitt's style is easy to read; his exercises are simple to understand but more difficult to put into action. Benefits derived from repeated use, however, will definitely result in the necessary decrease in brain operating frequency that promotes better overall health.
Bottom line? William Hewitt writes an easy to read and implement beginner's book that helps the reader to develop the senses and exercise the brain like cardio works out the heart. In the first half of the book, one learns to visualize and get to the basic psychic level. In the second half one uses the basic psychic state to handle various everyday issues. Some of his case studies are trite, but they add breeziness to the read that urges the reader to get to the last page and think about the exercises in terms of functionality. Recommended as Beginning Brainwork 101.

| | Ok by Kristin M. M. (Apple Valley, MN USA) 3 Stars August 25, 2009 This book is easy reading, goes pretty fast. I thought it was ok. I did not like that he had "case studies" in there, they are good if you need or want an example.
| | Thinking about buying? Don't... by Mastergreed (Poland) 1 Stars July 02, 2009 Author gives you some theory, some exercises and his own experiences. That's all, it's a good book to read, but I'm rating it "1" because it's not a guide at all to anything.
| | An area perhaps not meant for some to go, based on my experience by Brown Eyed Girl 1 Stars March 28, 2009 I have always been interested in psychic abilities and do believe we all have some degree of them. I am not one to blast any psychic book... I am only relating my experience. While I have respect for Mr. Hewitt and any others who try to teach this... after the experience I had, I now believe perhaps it is best to just let God/Source/the One... whatever you call God or your concept ... I will say God because 1) I believe in God and 2) the author seems to as well... to just let God give as He sees fit and trust Him to help you develop them naturally rather than pushing the issue too forcefully. I will relate why I feel that.
I did the exercies just fine until I got to the Beach of Time one. I have not rushed through the book and took my time with each exercise. Last night I reached the Beach of Time exercise. I had a very strange experience and though I have not even really prayed to God in a very long time... this time I did. This is what happened. I went to the Beach of Time... envisioned the past and future to left and right as directed, etc... but then as I prepared to leave the "Beach of Time" and began counting back upward from 1... I felt like a jolt in my head. This is the only way I can describe it. I felt a strange sensation, and then heat... all through my head... and an intense headache, with pain going even down my neck and into my shoulders. It burned and I felt I was on the verge of passing out. My daughter even noticed, as she was in the room at the time, and asked me what was wrong. I was scared out of my mind. I tried to close my eyes and repeat the procedure, I thought maybe I had done something wrong (I had read the exercise several times before even attempting it though) and if I did it again maybe it would help... but every time I would close my eyes, it felt like I was getting pulled in somehow, like I was "sinking"... like I was fighting to stay above water or something. I know this sounds far fetched but I promise, this is the God's honest truth.
The sinking sensation would not stop... even when my eyes were opened I still felt strange and not myself at all. I did not like it one bit. It wasn't increased awareness... it was just...wrong-feeling... like I stepped over some boundary I shouldn't have and this was the price. Serious, this is what went through my mind. The whole experience lasted a half hour and I didn't know what to do... it felt like my mind was struggling not to "sink" even with my eyes open. I was desperate and as I said, I have not prayed to God in a long time... but I sure did last night. I asked him to please help me if I had somehow really messed up and to fix whatever I did wrong, and forgive me if I stepped over a boundary that perhaps I was not meant to! Just a couple minutes after I prayed the feelings began to go away, ten minutes later I was back to normal and crying and thanking God. I threw away my book and pledged to never read this or anything else "teaching" me to develop psychic giftings. If you will notice... all these people that teach it were already born with a large degree of giftedness, including Mr. Hewitt. YES I belive in pscyhic abilities and I am grateful for the people that have them. YES I believe each of us has a little to some degree... but that is for God to grant... not us to learn as you would a math or geography class. I would like to think we could but perhaps there are some things that just cannot be taught... or should not be taught. There is perhaps a fine line and I think I crossed it last night. I write this as a warning to anyone who wants to do what I did and try to "develop" abilities... just let God/Universe give it to you as you are ready, as He/She/It seems fit. I realize not many people may have an experience such as I did but I felt I should let people know *my* experience and give this as a warning. The people that have these abilities strongly already (he mentioned that he had come from a strongly gifted mother and had done some things early on) have already learned how to adjust to them, naturally. But for people new to the heavier stuff... it may be too difficult.
I also can't help but wonder why you have to essentially hypnotize yourself to develop a gifting that is supposed to be naturally latent in us anyway. I have received flashes of information before, visions of things that actually happened, knowing what people were going to say, who was coming to see me, etc., before it happened... I have small abilities as do many of us... and I never needed to be in a state of hypnosis to experience it. Perhaps the "hypnosis programming" is not the best idea for some individuals to develop their psychic abilities.
I'm sure many people will not like this post... but I am not doing it to be mean. As I said in the beginning, I am a believer in these abilities and I know they are helpful... that is why I wanted to jump the race and start developing my own abilities more... I just think that, based on my experience, that might be the wrong thing to do. I don't want others to experience what I did last night and that is why I am writing this. Not to be mean or offend, but to warn that it did happen with me, and you might want to think twice before forcing abilities that others have had given to them naturally. I would recommend not developing the abilities at all on your own, but to ask God to give you and "gift you" with what you can handle, take it from there in a more natural and progressive way that doesn't require exercises or hypnosis. I hope this is helpful to some people.
