EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Most people think that poor communication is the reason why so many relationships end, but it’s actually the way we learn to think about our partners and our problems that kills trust, erodes intimacy, and cripples communication. In Why Can’t You Read My Mind?, psychologist Jeffrey Bernstein reveals—for the first time—the nine toxic thought patterns at work in virtually every intimate relationship, and shows you how the distorted, negative, exaggerated thoughts you and your partner may have about each other can destroy the love you share. Based on years of successful couples counseling, Bernstein has developed a simple yet powerful approach for breaking the toxic thinking cycle and helps you establish new and more positive thinking habits for solving your problems and dealing with the stresses of everyday life. Filled with practical advice on topics like fighting fairly and purging emotional ghosts as well as fun, easy-to-follow exercises that will keep your romance alive for years to come, Why Can’t You Read My Mind? is an invaluable tool for those seeking to restore—or create—a happy, loving, and fulfilling relationship. | Good for everyone by ELSG (Japan) 5 Stars June 29, 2009 How simply written and oddly correct. I don't find that everything applies in my relationship but it's been really helpful. Definitely a good tool for anyone in or desiring to be in a relationship. I think it can also be helpful in helping couples find a common starting ground in trying to renew their relationship. I personally like the writing style, humor involved and simplicity of the authors message. I like to read but I can't stand technical jargon and this book has none which makes it great for everyone.
| | excellent into on the power of thoughts by Donna Matthews 5 Stars May 16, 2009 This book provided excellent information on the power of thoughts and how thoughts play a role in male/female relationships. I like the way that it was laid out in a "step-by-step" way, which was easy to understand. It explained why thing "go wrong" for most people and gave simple solutions on how to turn things around. I found it to be a quick and easy read and continue to use it as a reference point.
| | Very Informative by C. Patterson (Seattle WA) 5 Stars April 11, 2009 I was searching for a book after my boyfriend and I kept fighting and having the SAME fights over and over. After a divorce - I was also wondering if it was all me. This book certainly helped point out patterns in my own behavior/thought patterns that were clearly sinking my current relationship. What was interesting is that the thought patterns were totally different from my last relationship!
Putting the book to work is taking some time and I am constantly reminding myself to banish the toxic thoughts! I've now given the book to my boyfriend to read... I know my communication skills are slowly improving.
I think over time - it will certainly be fabulous!
| | Best informative relationship book out there! by H. Chevres (Orlando, FL) 5 Stars September 22, 2008 If you have had doubts or conflicting thoughts about your relationship, take a deep breathe, order this book and read it. It will definitely change a lot of your thoughts to more real and concrete truths that will help you and your significant other reach the ultimate calm in relationships. You will change for the better, and even if your significant other reads it or not, they will also change due to you reading this book. Trust me, this author knows what he is talking about. I wouldn't order any other book but this one. It definitely changed my way of thinking and made me appreciate what i have, instead of what i want.
| | Just what I was looking for! I wish I had read it sooner! by Recovering Toxic Thinker (California) 5 Stars June 03, 2008 This was such a well written and easy to read book. So often, relationship guidance is written in a style which seems to be meant for fellow therapists. This book used humor and everyday language and situations to efficiently get the points across. There is enough repetition of the advice, but not too much. I will end up reading it again and recommending it to my friends.
