| *Kindle Edition* - A book that tries to do too many things -- by NoggZ 3 Stars November 18, 2009 I purchased the Kindle edition of this book and read it in one sitting. It's easy to do that since most of the book is comprised of recipes. Although there's solid advice regarding food choices that are antioxidant in nature, I found the book to be annoying in the sense that it ventured into other realms of health. It's almost like it wanted to be a self-help book, a spiritual awareness manual, and even an autobiography of the primary author's many unfortunate medical conditions that were (of course) all helped or eliminated by strictly following the diet. The chapter regarding emotions was especially annoying.
For people who don't live near a city where you have access to a wide variety of health stores, markets, and the like, you'll likely find this plan hard to follow. I also thought it was an especially financially challenging way to eat. In my opinion, you can eat healthy without having to embrace exotic, transnational fare.
This book was also repetitive in the sense that author repeated herself over & over. It could have been much smaller had the editing been more vigorous & and the original prose kept brevid.
As far as the transition to the Kindle, I was very satisfied. There was only one small section that had cut-off text, but you could still follow the information via context. Charts (i.e., BMI, menu plans) were scanned intact, and were easily legible even at smaller font sizes.
As a patient care provider in the clinic day-in and day-out, I do feel understanding the role of antioxidants in the diet is important, but despite the good intentions of the authors, I found nothing new or novel in this book.
| | Book has wrong title . . . Low calory diet by Laurence W. Evans (South Africa) 1 Stars August 28, 2009 Considering that this book is titled "The Super Antioxidant Diet", I was surprised to find how little information there was on antioxidants. My wife likes its low calorie recipes. However, if you want to learn more on antioxidant foods, this is not the book. Part III, chapters 15 to 23, is not even about food. The rest of the book's title, "Nutrition Guide. A Health Plan for the body, mind and spirit" is what the book is about. To me it seems this book was written as a low calorie food health guide and then wrapped with the term "antioxidant" to increase sales.
Most of the book is recipes. The word ORAC appears once and there is no comparative rating of any foods so as to define what is a "super antioxidant food". There is not even a list of super-antioxidant foods. None of the recipes has an antioxidant score, while you can find a table with the score for 5 recipes for a range of elements, vitamins, cholesterol, calories etc.
In conclusion, this author should refund me, as this cover title is false advertising. I am disappointed in the content. This is lazy mass marketing at its worst!
| | Not what I was expecting by Wellness Enthusiast (Seattle, WA) 3 Stars August 22, 2009 I'm pretty surprised no one else has mentioned how religious this book is. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's a pretty significant portion of the book. I thought I was buying a book based on nutrition research, but instead I got prayers and Bible verses mixed with inaccurate nutrition facts. For example, they state that any heating of oil is damaging in your body. This is only true if you heat the oil over its smoke point. There were several other statements made in the book that left me scratching my head.
If they wanted to make this a religious-based nutrition book they should have at least let the reader know BEFORE they buy it. I was expecting something completely different than what I received. I think this book is best for Christians who are beginning to learn about nutrition.
| | VIBRANT cuisine is correct by Janna Beatty 5 Stars June 30, 2009 Glowing supple skin is one of the first changes I observed (since I am trained skin care expert)from following Robin Jeeps eating guidlines and taking Dr. Couey's enzyme therapy. But the reduction in joint pain, in as little as 4 days I could only describe as miraculous. Personally, I love the science behind the information. It feels so great to get precise answers, based on my individual blood test results since there is so much confusing and contradictory information out there. Robin's simple tip about re-commiting to the program each week is a great tool for focus and therefore success.
| | Healthy & Awareness by Wanda Hoffman 4 Stars March 17, 2009 I am so exited about this book which has so much information in it. It has helped me to look at our eating habits and the way we were taught to eat. This has opened my eyes to a much better way of nourishing my body. As the years pass on, I realize that age, good health and a strong body & mind are the most important to us all. I am thankful this information is available for us to learn. My goal is to incorporate as much healthy foods as I can each day.
