Light Refresher Course by J. Barkett (Brooklyn, NY) 2 Stars
September 17, 2009
I bought this book because I truly loved Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting by Lynn Grabhorn. Marla references Lynn's book a lot. The exercises and suggestions Marla gives out have been written about before, but this is mainly focused on bringing about a relationship through the Laws of Attraction. What I have a big problem with is Marla's Appendix B "How a Matchmaking Service Can Help You Find Your Soulmate." Marla goes on to give out reasons why a person should use a matchmaking service and she's pretty much reinforcing all the negatives about dating which some of us have taken a while to wipe out in our thinking! If you're going to write a book that's supposed to help people who are looking to connect, please don't try to refer us to a matchmaking service (which Marla, I believe, also runs) by reminding us about how "tough" it is to date when we're over 20, or how "tough" it is if you're shy, how "hard" it can be, etc. I'm into my 40's and that's not my reality -- and I've worked hard on reminding myself that just because "statistics show" or "typically" that just doesn't have to apply to me - thanks for the Laws of Attraction and positive thinking.

Sensible, Pragmatic, Loving and Authoritative by Zimathali@aol.com (Chicago, IL) 5 Stars

Excuse me, how can someone who admittedly hasn't read the book, yet has given it a bad review. It is Non-sensical. Katherine Burgess (the reviewer) would change her life, or at least shed her negativity if she were to read the book. The point of reading this book is more to get a reflection of yourself and to see how and what you are attracting. Reading a book does not necessarily mean you go out and find your soulmate. Life doesn't come with any such guarantees and besides, it isn't the point of any kind of reading. Reading a book (more specifically this one) is that you understand the laws and rules that govern finding a soulmate. Not everything in the book will apply to everyone equally, but what applies is for you to discover and for you to decipher. Marla Martenson takes you on a journey and gives you a book that serves as a guide for those seeking more reflection. (Ms. Burgess, you may really want to purchase the book and give it an honest shot). Maybe you will set yoruself on the path to finding your soulmate. Don't keep them waiting. The book is written by an experienced individual who makes a living as a professional matchmaker. It is a field that isn't taught in schools and universities. The writer gets her training in a hard-core hands-on fashion. Her relevent experience gives authority to her 'voice' and credence to her advice. It isn't a book that is preachy and that is why I loved it. It is basic on many levels and yet is simultaneously deep at the same time, which makes it a good read for all and a good read down the road. I can't wait to re-read it down the road and get more out of it. I loved that the book is so pragmatic and doesn't give you vague exercises. It is practical and to the point, just as the title suggests.

Inspiring thoughts for allowing good in your life by Bookworm (Chicago, IL USA) 5 Stars

It has been a while since I first read "Excuse Me, Your Soul Mate Is Waiting," but I had occasion to pick it up again to recommend it for reading to a friend who wants to change the status quo in her life. This publication came to mind since the author gently and with a sense of humor steers you to understanding and making better choices in your relationships. Through exercises sprinkled at intervals in this publication you are encouraged to consider ways to change old patterns and become attuned to your capacity for caring and connection. All complex and invaluable skills to bring you much more in focus to your emotional life situation and just in general to dealing with all people..not just a dating guide for attracting THE ONE. Book is upbeat and plucky but insightful and generous with tips for improving your capacity to relax with other people, accept yourself and being open to sending those positive vibes to allow the positives to happen in your life. Informative, fun and easy reading. The kind of book you would recommend to a friend after you have read it yourself. I did. I hope your read it too! Enjoy!! May you find your true hearts desire.

Changing Your Dating Mind Set by Dr. Jane Branam (Charlotte NC) 4 Stars
April 28, 2009
Changing your thinking before dating again makes all the difference. Martenson uses the power of the law of attraction when she suggests gratitude lists and putting the focus on what you do want, rather than what you don't want. I am a dating and relationship expert and one of the areas that I think is most important in her book is "Are You Hoping Someone Will Change?" Many times I see people wasting years with the wrong person because they don't want to be alone, but that someone is not their soul mate or will not commit. Enjoyable and helpful book if you actually do the exercises. Power Path to Love

A great book by ScratchGolfer8439 (Los Altos Hills, CA United States) 5 Stars

I've been dating for the past 15 years and I'm tired of all the BS associated with all the expectations of the world of dating. I'm ready to look for my sole mate. This book sets a good solid foundataion for looking for a long term relationship. It reset my frame of reference as to what I need to look for in finding a long term relationship. It has given me new hope and I'm excited to go out there with a new frame of mind.
