Product Description
Breastfeeding is natural, but it’s not always easy. It is the biological norm, but it is not the cultural norm. By learning the seven basic principles in this book, mothers can dramatically increase their likelihood of success and make breastfeeding the enjoyable experience it should be. The seven laws taught in this book are easy for mothers to understand and are sure to help them avoid some of the pitfalls that they might otherwise face. The seven principles include: 1. Babies Have the Urge to Self-Attach 2. Use the Power of Skin-to-Skin: A Baby’s Natural Habitat 3. Breastfeed Ad Lib 4. Reach for the Comfort Zone 5. Expect Cluster Nursing 6. More Milk Out = More Milk Made 7. Babies Outgrow Breastfeeding The book also addresses how to solve common problems and deal with special situations such as breast reductions and babies with special needs. The authors describe some of the social, psychological, and cultural reasons why breastfeeding is not currently the norm, and what this implies for mothers. In all, this is an easy-to-use breastfeeding resource for new mothers, which includes all the latest research and techniques used by those in the lactation field.

This book gives realistic expecation of Breastfeeding in the early days. I wish that I had it the first week I was feedinng. By 6 weeks, it gets a lot easier and the book is not really needed.

Best breastfeeding book ever!!!!! by T. Derrico (Birmingham, AL) 5 Stars

This is a great book for first time moms (or even "been there done that" moms). It is very inspirational..I know the hormones were soaring already from my pregnancy...but this book made me more excited about the prospect of breastfeeding and being able to supply all the nutrients my baby needed. This book gives background info and hints, tips, and tricks on the art of breastfeeding. I didn't attend any classes nor did I need a lactation consultant. This book and a few resources they recommended (free online sites with video) help me to successfully nurse my daughter. Although I had a C-section, the first moment they brought her in the room with me...she latched on perfectly. I already knew the "right" and "wrong" so knowing what to watch for made me very confident that I could provide for daughter. This book prepares you for pumping...if you have to go back to work like I did...it even has a chapter on weaning. It is a great book and I would recommend it to any mom.

Excellent resource by Rachael S. Johnson 5 Stars

This is by far the best, most up to date book on breastfeeding that I have read. In preparation for my third child, I wanted to be more successful at breastfeeding. This book explains so much more of how our bodies are made and how we are programmed to breastfeed our babies AND how our babies are programmed to breastfeed. There are great chapters that cover specific problems during breastfeeding. Some of the information is extreme (comparing the formula manufacturers to the tobacco companies) but if you look past those extremes, the instruction and information are an invaluable tool to get off to a great start with breastfeeding. I will recommend this book to all my pregnant friends!
