EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Once thought to be a comparatively rare mental illness, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is now known to affect about two out of every 100 Americans. OCD has recently attracted considerable media attention, including numerous major news magazine articles, television news program reports, and coverage in popular culture—notably in the UPN television series Monk. Because of this higher profile, more and more people struggling with the disorder are recognizing their symptoms, looking for information on the problem, and seeking treatment. OCD behaviors can take a number of forms; compulsive washing, checking, hoarding, and obsessive thoughts are among the better known. Individuals with OCD can experience significant reduction in quality of life because of the disorder. They may lose the ability to work, to function socially, or even to accomplish basic tasks like shopping and driving. The good news is that a number of treatment options have proven effective at controlling OCD. This book is a great place for anyone with OCD to start looking for help. Since its first publication in 1999, the OCD Workbook has become among the most trusted and recommended OCD resources available. More than 40,000 copies have provided help and hope to people with the disorder, and therapists have come to regard the book as a useful adjunct to their private practices. This fully revised and expanded edition includes new findings on the causes of OCD, including genetic research. It offers information on treatment options including neurosurgery, new medications, and a whole new chapter on day-to-day coping strategies for people with OCD. The new edition includes expanded coverage of related disorders like body dysmorphic disorder, trichotillomania, and skin picking. New material on relapse prevention, OCD in children, and family involvement in OCD round out this important book. |

| OCD WOORKBOOK by Karen Clancy (USA) 5 Stars August 14, 2009 This workbook was great. Very easy for a teenager to read. I highlighted the places that applied to my daughters OCD and she went through the highlighted areas and worked and read those parts. Very good workbook!!!
| | The Ultimate OCD Workbook by Maurice (Michigan) 5 Stars February 15, 2009 If you have run across this review and or the OCD Workbook, you have finally found the BEST written resource available on the subject of OCD. After months of researching for my son I found that this book is the Bible in the field of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders and the best resource to begin understanding OCD as well as creating a path for recovery. If your OCD therapist, counselor, or psychologist has not heard of, used, or is not aware of this manual then you need to find another individual to assist you in your recovery. This book is the GOLD STANDARD and EVERY well trained OCD therapist is aware of the content and various CBT / ERP tools taught to over-come and keep this disorder in check. For me I used this book as a litmus test to decide which therapist to choose for my son. If they never heard of the book, I knew that they were not an expert in the field and were not up-to-date or aware of the latest and most successful tools and techniques to overcoming OCD. My very best wishes and prayers to all who are beginning their path to recovery.
| | Great CBT tool by J. J. Marino (Rochester, New York) 5 Stars August 06, 2008 I use this book in conjunction with CBT and also the book Brain Lock: Free Yourself from Obsessive-Compulsive Behavior. The triumvirate is very important. You can do this on your own, I do however recommend a licensed therapist to assist you. This is brain surgery on a personal level. It requires a skillful hand that you, the sufferer may not have the aptitude for.
Ok, about the workbook. The lessons are short and easy and build on the previous lessons like any other workbook you have possibly used in the past. The steps do seem scary at times, but as the saying goes, anything worth doing is hard. The reward for completing this book is lessening of the veracious OCD symptoms.
As stated, please seek the help of a licensed therapist for help with the workbook. It will be well worth your time.

| | Never got it by Joseph Melaney (Somerville, MA) 2 Stars July 07, 2008 I never got the item. How can I review the item if I never received it?
