EDITORIAL REVIEWS

Product Description
Since the publication of its first edition, the Handbook of Clinical Psychopharmacology for Therapists had filled a significant gap in the professional literature available to psychologists and other mental health clinicians: a practical, accessible guide to psychoactive medications that is both comprehensive and free from the complicated language and technical rigor found in medical schools texts. Thousands of therapists keep this book on their shelves to quickly reference drug facts for their clients. Tens of thousands of graduate and undergraduate students of psychology are first introduced to the medical treatment of mental health problems with the handbook. Now in its fifth edition, the book continues to be among the most important references for mental health clinicans. The book is organized by disorder and, within each disorder, by medication. Reader learn the indications, contraindication, efficacy, side effects, and success indicators for each drug. Interactions between drugs are discussed, as are the differences between using certain medications in the treatment of adults and children and adolescents. In this edition, many details have been updated to reflect finds from ongoic research, including new material about the sexual side effects of antidepressants.

Very Easy to Understand by Colleen Riggs 4 Stars
October 18, 2009
This book breaks it down into simplistic terms, and as long as you are semi familiar with biology you should have no problem understanding how the medications work. I got this for my Psychopharmacology class and I expected it to to be so intimidating and complicated but its not. I love that it has sample vignettes to help you understand better. I would also recommend getting Preston's book "Clinical Psychopharmacology made ridiculously simple" as a supplement to this book. It breaks it down even more and groups the disorders with the specific drugs. Its a good review book.

Pharmacology, a Handbook for Therapists by Kate Noel 2 Stars
July 18, 2009
A very biologically oriented text. The realm of psychology and biology is fraught with unanswered questions and exceptions to the rule which causes some confusion and a need for further research. It is very detail oriented and not clear in some areas as to the explanations of some of the neurological functions. A more cohesive work on the biology of psychological disorders and the outcomes of each drug with each disorder could be explained better for non medical students which many in the psychology field include. It leaves one with the question of whether or not the science can specifically identify the problems, exactly which treatment to use and the outcomes due to so many influencing variables involved. Even as a reference book for specific drugs for specific problems I would rather have a more concise description and less cellular biological details.

This book was described as having a dent in the cover. The hardback cover actually came with a tear in it. It's disappointing that this was not accurately described and I would not have purchased this book had I known.
