| platypus 5 Stars June 15, 2007
This story is about the platypus. I learned that they like to eat worms, insects, fish eggs, water plants, and crayfish. A female platypus is smaller than a male platypus. They have poison in their hands. One time there were men who killed platypuses. Platypuses got extinct so the government made them stop. Platypuses live in burrows near the water. I wonder if platypuses have enemies? I wonder if they kill people if they get in our waters? I wonderf if the thing in their hands where the poison goes out of breaks off?
You will like this book because it tells you about an animal that lives on land and water. by Brandon Newell
| | Mondo Animals: Platypus is not the very best animal book 3 Stars March 16, 2006 You can call me StoryMaker. Don't get me wrong, Mondo Animals: Platypus is a good book that taught me what platypuses eat and what platypuses do. It is nice, but here are my complaints:
1. It is short. (I'm used to Natural World animal books witch are much longer.)
2. Most of the pictures are not-the-best paintings. (They aren't horrible, but I like photos or detailed drawings.)
So overall, it is a great book and if you want to know what platypuses eat and what mom platypuses do, it is great, but you might want something longer and with better pictures. Signed, StoryMaker. "Gotta trust the kid's review!"
| | My fave animal by Alex Perkins (Allegan, MI United States) 5 Stars July 23, 2003 The platypus is one of the weirdest creatures on earth and has been my favourite since I was old enough to walk (or so it seems ;)). This book is simple, straight forward, and offers good information as well as pictures of this elusive creature. I bought this book to add to my collection when I was 19 y/o. Doesn't matter what age you are, this is a great book. =)
| | A good book for children 3 Stars February 28, 2002 There are great pictures and a large amount of facts about the platypus in this film. However, I should have taken a hint from the name of the series - "Mondo Animals" - that this is a children's book. There's nothing wrong with that; it just should have been clearer from the description. The language is extremely simplistic. I can imagine a 4th or 5th-grader using this book as a basis for a report. But if you're looking for an adult-level treatment of this subject, keep looking.
| | This is a really good book! 5 Stars July 31, 1999 It is a good book because it tells you about the life of a platypus. It tells you what it eats, where it lives in Aultralia. This is a good book for anyone who likes platypuses.

| Platypus: The Extraordinary Story of How a Curious Creature Baffled the World by Ann Moyal (Author)
When the first platypus specimen reached England from Australia in 1799, the scientific community claimed that it was a hoax. On closer investigation, dubious European naturalists eventually declared it to be real, though in an age obsessed with classification, the category-defying platypus sparked heated debates across Europe for a century. In Platypus, Ann Moyal provides a unique biography of one of the world's most famously strange creatures and tells the incredible story of how it became...
