| Opening to Meditation by Noreen Mccracken (Los Angeles, Ca. USA) 5 Stars October 05, 2009 I have used these CD meditations many times and always found them beneficial. Early this year I had a severe injury from a fall and after a few months of recovery, began a series of acupuncture treatments for pain. I downloaded the meditations onto my iPod and listened to them during the sessions. They were invaluable in helping me relax and aided my recovery through the procedure. I highly recommend this resource to everyone.
| | Soothing! by Geraldine Amaral (Washington, DC USA) 5 Stars September 17, 2009 The book is good, fairly simple and straightforward. But the CD is wonderful. Ms. Lang has a wonderfully soothing voice. I could listen to her speak all day. The pace is just right and I find myself slowing way down just listening. Thank you so much for this great CD. When is the next one coming out?
| | An answer on every page by Victoria Clarke 5 Stars May 20, 2009 I have often wondered why people meditate, what the advantages and benefits are, why so many people do this thing? On literally every page of this book, I found an answer to that question. I am thrilled to learn about the concrete results I could get from daily meditation, even if I only spend five minutes a day. I suspect this is old wisdom, brought to us in the clear, simple, and very accessible voice of a gifted teacher. Diana Lang reached me with this book. She helped me understand the benefits to myself, to my relationships, and to the world, when I care enough to be deeply and quietly with myself on a regular basis. Do I want a fresh perspective on an old problem? Yes. Would I prefer to be calm when things around me are in flux? Of course. Can I have a life of more consciousness and awareness of this present moment? Yes, I want that. Diana says that the "energetic apparatus you build by meditating will absolutely change the way your life works", and I trust her.
You know how people sometimes ask a heavy question and then say "explain it to me like I was a four-year-old"? Clearly, Diana has that incredible ability, to cut through the big ideas and get to the essence of the message, to the heart of the matter. I thank you for writing this book, for explaining the why and the how of meditation, for giving me permission to only do it five minutes a day if I feel like it, for reminding me that I can meditate even when I'm washing my car or walking through the mall. I give this book to friends who are opening up to the idea of meditation. I feel it can change the world.
It is said that when you connect to a teacher through her writings, you open a direct avenue to her. Read this book and let Diana reach you where you are. It's worth it.
| | Wonderful book and even better CD by Keith Britt (Baltimore, MD) 5 Stars April 14, 2009 I am a beginner at meditation and checked out a few books from the library. None really struck a chord with me. I stumbled upon this book by Diana Lang and decided to buy it. So glad I did. First, the book itself is great and was the perfect intro for me to meditation. Simple and well written.
The real gem though is the CD. There is something about Lang's voice, demeanor, words, the right mix of background music vs. silence -- I can't put my finger on it-- but there's just something that is unbelievably relaxing, calming, and centering. I ripped the CD to my ipod and often listen to it at work when I need to calm down. It has also become my healthier substitute for sleeping pills at night when I'm stressed.
I recently wrote to Ms. Lang and and asked her if she had any forthcoming podcasts or other CD's that I could buy. She said she is working on some additional material which I will be sure to get my hands on when it comes out.
I highly recommend this book and I really can't say enough about the CD; just excellent.
| | What makes Diana Lang so special? by Melvin R. Witkin (Sherman Oaks, CA United States) 5 Stars February 21, 2009 Have you ever tried to take a yoga class and felt like an alien in the room? Have you ever been so frustrated in a yoga class because the positions seem impossible? Have you ever felt like you were the only one in the room who "doesn't get it?" Well, I have many times, but not since I began taking yoga with teacher Diana Lang. Diana has an extraordinary gift for teaching backed by her expertise in meditation and spiritual practice. Her gifts as a teacher allow her to make everyone in her classes feel like they belong. Her emphasis on breath and the practice of yoga make us all feel as though we can accept ourselves as we are, where we are. There is a sense of peace that accompanies such practice and Diana's keen ability to share her energetic force with her class, truly makes her yoga classes unlike any other experience I have had. I know I would not be alone when I say that Diana's beauty and grace fills the room with such a light, that we are all able to see, through her, the true principles of yoga, mediation, and spiritual practice. There are no "absolutes" or "musts" in Diana's class. She asks that we meet the pose where we are, that we don't force our bodies to move in ways in which they are not able. Diana reminds us that our breath is the "bridge between the soul and the self"
We are blessed to have a teacher with such natural insight and genuine compassion. In addition to her dedication to her students, her innate beauty and light give us an extra bonus, as she shares her vast knowledge with us about the practice of yoga. Anyone who knows Diana would agree that she is truly special with a unique gift of making all her students feel that there is hope and light--mentally, physically, and spiritually. What makes Diana Lang special? All you need to do is attend one her classes, and you will have the answer right away.
