EDITORIAL REVIEWS

Product Description
Updating the Artech House bestseller, Fundamentals and Applications of Microfluidics, this newly revised second edition provides electrical and mechanical engineers with complete and current coverage of microfluidics – an emerging field involving fluid flow and devices in microscale and nanoscale. The second edition offers a greatly expanded treatment of nanotechnology, electrokinetics and flow theory. The book shows engineers how to take advantage of the performance benefits of microfluidics and serves as an instant reference for state-of-the-art microfluidics technology and applications. The wide range of applications discussed includes fluid control devices, gas and fluid measurement devices, medical testing equipment, and implantable drug pumps. This cutting-edge resource offers practical guidance in choosing the best fabrication and enabling technology for a specific microfluidic application, and explains how to design a microfluidic device. Moreover, professionals get simple calculations, ready-to-use data tables, and rules of thumb that help them make design decisions and determine device characteristics quickly.

This is the best all around text I have found on microfluidics. It has a lot of comprehensive informaion on fabrication techniques while still providing all of the necessary theoretical background. It also has a lot of good examples and discussions of many of the common applications of the field. If you get one book on microfluidics, it should be this one.

Theoretical Microfluidics (Oxford Master Series in Physics)

Theoretical Microfluidics (Oxford Master Series in Physics)
by Henrik Bruus (Author)

Microfluidics is a young and rapidly expanding scientific discipline, which deals with fluids and solutions in miniaturized systems, the so-called lab-on-a-chip systems. It has applications in chemical engineering, pharmaceutics, biotechnology and medicine. As the lab-on-a-chip systems grow in complexity, a proper theoretical understanding becomes increasingly important.
The basic idea of the book is to provide a self-contained formulation of the theoretical framework of microfluidics, and...

Microflows and Nanoflows: Fundamentals and Simulation (Interdisciplinary Applied Mathematics)

Microflows and Nanoflows: Fundamentals and Simulation (Interdisciplinary Applied Mathematics)
by George Karniadakis (Author), Ali Beskok (Author), Narayan Aluru (Author)

In the last few years there has been significant progress in the development of microfluidics and nanofluidics at the application as well as at the fundamental and simulation levels. This book provides a comprehensive summary of these changes describing fluid flow in micro and nano configurations. Where as in their previous book entitled Microflows: Fundamentals and Simulation the authors covered scales from one hundred nanometers to microns (and beyond), in this new book they discuss length...

Introduction to Microfluidics

Introduction to Microfluidics
by Patrick Tabeling (Author), Suelin Chen (Translator)

Microfluidics deals with fluids flowing in miniaturized systems. It is a young discipline, which is expected to substantially expand over the next few years, stimulated by the considerable development of applications in the pharmaceutical, biomedical and chemical engineering domains.
The book is an introduction to this discipline. In the first chapter, it presents a short historical background and discusses the main perspectives of the domain, at economical and scientific levels. Then...

Fundamentals of BioMEMS and Medical Microdevices

Fundamentals of BioMEMS and Medical Microdevices
by Steven S. Saliterman (Author)

BioMEMS devices are as important to the future of medicine as microprocessors were to the computer revolution at the end of the last century. BioMEMS is a science that includes more than simply finding biomedical applications for microelectromechanical systems devices. It represents an expansion into a host of new polymer materials, microfluidic physics, surface chemistries and their modification, 'soft' fabrication techniques, biocompatibility, and cost-effective solutions to biomedical...
