Product Description
Eldercare caregivers and professionals who enjoyed the clear, concise, practical information found in Eldercare 911: The Caregiver’s Complete Handbook for Making Decisions—which Publishers Weekly called an "excellent comprehensive guidebook"—will welcome the authors’ follow-up book: The Eldercare 911 Question and Answer Book. Both the content and format of this new essential book show the authors’ unique understanding of what caregivers need most and have the hardest time finding: direct, practical, problem-solving answers that teach them to cope and help them regain control. The easy-to-read, relaxing informality of questions and answers—a one-of-a-kind format in eldercare books—simultaneously solves readers’ problems and provides them with an often gently humorous, occasionally provocative, and frequently poignant look into the emotions and lives of their fellow caregivers. The authors continuously deliver the message: "You are not alone." The Eldercare 911 Question and Answer Book offers caregivers new skills, outlined step by step, to help them manage the most important issues they face. Caregivers may smile, even laugh outright, as they recognize their family members among the "Know It Alls," "Guilt Trippers," "Time Abusers," "Demanders," "Work Disrupters," and five more realistic categories. The authors show you how to say "no" to all of them! The authors dedicate full chapters to the singular needs of working caregivers, living with dementia, how to avoid burnout, and making the difficult transition to life after caregiving. Moreover, "For Men Only" and "For Women Only" discuss new issues originating from the different perceptions men and women bring to their caregiving jobs. The final chapter, "Words of Hope and Encouragement," is, as one caregiver says, "filled with words of comfort about this maelstrom which has no road maps, no absolutes … to help me feel less alone and lost." Complete with helpful interactive worksheets and resource lists, this book’s helpful mixture of humor, comforting support, and concrete advice offers invaluable support and practical advice.

At last--Real Caregiving Solutions for Real Situations by AJ (Queens, NY) 5 Stars
September 20, 2005
With so many "eldercare" self-help books on the market, it is truly a breath of fresh air to read this follow up to the authors' first book, "Eldercare 911." Unlike other books dealing with eldercare, the question and answer format of this book is replete with real life examples of what really goes on between the caregiver and the older person. As a caregiver and a professional in the field of geriatrics for nearly 20 years, many of the situations described in this book really resonated with me. Also, kudos to the authors for addressing an underappreciated and underserved population: male caregivers. I think this book will appeal to individuals who are embarrassed or anxious to ask about those uncomfortable questions or who think that no one else is experiencing the same difficulties they are as caregivers. I also found the Q & A format to be immensely readable and enjoyable.

Informative and reassuring by Adam Lewis (New Jersey) 5 Stars

This followup book really struck a chord. So many of the letters could have been written by my wife or myself. It is a relief to know that others have experienced exactly the same situations that we have. Ms. Beerman's sure and measured advice for dealing with the various issues of family, finances. and mostly ourselves, helped pull us through.

A Must Have & Read for Caregivers by L. M. Sallot (Athens, GA United States) 5 Stars
July 12, 2005
"The Eldercare 911 Question and Answer Book" is the perfect follow-up companion to the first book in the Eldercare 911 series. In both books, the authors give such helpful, intelligent, thoughtful and comforting answers to real-life caregivers who have real-life problems. But the new "Eldercare 911 Question and Answer Book" is like "Dear Abby" for caregivers, only better! Reading other caregiver's questions prompts you to think of things you hadn't yet realized you need to think about. And reading the authors' answers gives you a great map to follow throughout the care-giving journey. The resource lists and worksheets are a real life-line. Reading other caregivers' stories make you realize that however lonely you feel as a caregiver you are far from alone in this experience. The last chapter is titled "Words of Hope and Comfort" and it ends the book's narrative with uplifting messages for all. If you are a caregiver - or know one - this book and its predecessor are must have's. Lynne Sallot, Ph.D.

Susan and Judie have done it again--delivering helpful, practical and honest answers to the caregiving questions you've always wanted to ask healthcare professionals. This is a must-read if you are caring for a loved one (or if you think that you may have to someday)--along with their first book, 'ELDERCARE 911'. Both provide thorough, useful and invaluable advice that you will want to have at your fingertips. They know what they're talking about--and have been welcomed guests, helping listeners on my Internet radio program, 'Coping With Caregiving'. --Jacqueline Marcell, author, 'Elder Rage, or Take My Father... Please! How To Survive Caring For Aging Parents'.
