EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Learn how to eat right after weight loss surgery. In the past decade or so, there have been explosive increases in both the incidence of severe obesity and weight loss (bariatric) surgery. It has been shown that the incidence of bariatric surgical procedures has increased over 600% in the last decade. It is estimated that approximately 200,000 Americans (and another 200,000 adults world wide) will undergo a bariatric operation in 2006. This dramatic increase in operative cases is in part a testament to the safety and efficacy of the currently performed surgical procedures including the roux-en-Y gastric bypass, laparoscopic adjustable gastric band, and the biliopancreatic diversion (with or without duodenal switch). Weight loss surgery is not a magic bullet, but with life-long positive lifestyle habits, including a healthy diet, you may be able to enjoy vibrant health you've never felt before.Once the surgery is over, there is a lifelong maintenance program to ensure not only that you keep the weight off, but that your body gets the right balance of nutrients. When you can only eat as much food as you can hold in your hand at a sitting, it's vital that you are eating the right foods and taking the correct supplements to nourish your body for life. What sets Recipes After Weight Loss Surgery apart from previous cookbooks is the combined expertise of Margaret Furtado, MS, RD, LD/N and Lynette Schultz, a combination of almost 40 years' experience in clinical nutrition and the culinary arts, respectively. Together, they'll help you navigate your way through the sometimes turbulent waters after your weight loss surgery, and will provide you with general clinical guidelines after your procedure, as well as helpful hints for easing your transition from surgery to your new, healthy lifestyle. With sections on home entertaining and eating-on-the-run, Ms. Furtado and Ms. Schultz will help you to feel like a person, rather than a patient, after your life-altering weight loss surgery. |

| Great recipes for WLS and very helpful WLS information in general by Nicole Green-Mower (Austin, TX USA) 5 Stars May 02, 2009 I purchased this with several other WLS cookbooks. This was my second favorite, based on ease - there are some recipes with ingredients that are a little less common. BUT the pictures are fantastic and the recipes are delicious - I wish I could say I've tried all that look good, but I haven't even hit the tip of the iceburg, yet. My non WLS husband looked through and marked a bunch that looked great to him. We have not been disappointed yet. Also, the introductory information about WLS and the different types and the nutrtional needs for each is good. This is a great reference book in addition to being a great and appealing cookbook.

| | Receipes for Life After Weight Loss Surgery by Lynette M. Perez (Baltimore, MD) 4 Stars March 31, 2009 I recently had the Gastric Band operation to help me lose weight. This book has been a tremendous help for me to prepare food that is not only good for me but tasty as well.
I hope everyone that buys it will like it as much as I do.

| | Wonderful cookbook for anyone who has had bariatric surgery!! by stacy6309 (Telford, PA) 5 Stars February 13, 2009 My husband was set to have surgery the beginning of 2009 and I was worried about changing my way of cooking. I also wanted to give him something tasty and still be able to watch his protein, sugar and fat intakes. This book was not only helpful with new and exciting recipes for after bariatric surgery but was also helpful in understanding the differences between the different surgeries that are now available. I would recommend this cookbook to anyone who has had the surgery! It definitely helped me understand better what my husband needs!!
| | The Lap Band Chronicles thinks... by the lap band chronicles 4 Stars February 08, 2009 Finally, a bariatric cookbook with pictures!! You all know I've had a bee in my bonnet about that for a while now. Not only are the full color photos tantalizing, the recipes are great too. I prepared the Oven Baked "Fried" Chicken which is a dish of chicken breasts coated with spices and rolled oats and "fried" in the oven. This recipe is very clever and very delicious. In addition to the recipes, the book gives a comprehensive overview the bariatric diet regime--all stages. It covers gastric banding, gastric bypass and, biliopancreatic diversion. The book even gives the low down on artificial sweeteners, protein powders, and a well-stocked bariatric pantry. I give this one four lap bands. [...]
