EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description The Specific Carbohydrate Diet is a strict grain-free, lactose-free, and sucrose-free dietary regimen intended for those suffering from Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis (both forms of IBD), celiac disease, IBS, cystic fibrosis, and autism. It is based on the work of Elaine Gottschall, who wrote Breaking the Vicious Cycle, which introduces the SCD and explains the importance of eliminating certain carbohydrates in order to alleviate digestive ailments such as IBD, IBS, and celiac disease. For those suffering from gastrointestinal illnesses, the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) offers a method for easing symptoms and pain, and ultimately regaining health. Recipes for the Specific Carbohydrate Diet(TM) offers a diverse and delicious collection of 150 SCD-friendly recipes, that includes over 80 dairy-free recipes. The easy-to-make and culturally diverse recipes featured in the book include breakfast dishes, appetizers, main dishes, and desserts such as -- Hazelnut-Vanilla Pancakes, Olive Sandwich Bread, Chicken Satay, Roasted Bass with Parsley Butter, Thin Crust Pizza, Gretel's Gingerbread Cookies, and Mango Ice Cream. It is accompanied by 40 full-color photos that will inspire you to get cooking again. In addition, personal anecdotes accompany each section of this book. You can find out more about this book on-line at www.scdrecipe.com/cookbook/. |

| not what i was hoping for by T. J. Anderson (milwaukee, WI) 2 Stars November 17, 2009 I was really looking for some simple easy to make recipes for everyday eating... I figured with so many recipes it would cover that. I was wrong and most of these are to much prep for the time I have. I don't think i've used one recipe from it yet.
| | Not Good for Colitis by Michele Brown 1 Stars November 08, 2009 I ordered this book based on other's reviews. This book is of no use to me, as my doctor told me I can not eat nuts. Not only do the recipes in this book not work with my colitis, but they all include incredibly expensive products in order to make the food. Almond flour is really expensive. If you suffer from colitis, this is not the book for you unless you are able to eat nuts.
| | A goldmine for those looking for grain free recipes! by Abbytreasures 5 Stars October 19, 2009 What a great find -- this cook book. He provides recipes for all tastes, from desserts to main course to beverages! Very easy to follow, and the ingredients are things not difficult to find in your local store. I do not hesitate to recommend this book to everyone!
| | Simple, Yet Flavorful - Great SCD Resource by Kathy J. (Kalamazoo, MI United States) 5 Stars October 04, 2009 My husband is on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, and this is the best cookbook I have found so far. I am not an especially confident cook, so this book has been a great resource for me. There are many recipes that are not overly complicated, yet result in flavorful dishes. So far I have made the Stuffed Mushrooms (pair well with a lean steak), Kung Pao Chicken made with SCD Asian Sauce (the dried chilies make it SPICY!), Bulgogi Wraps (or Korean Marinated Beef, also made with SCD Asian Sauce, and they are DELICIOUS!), Shepherd's Pie (this recipe calls for cauliflower instead of mashed potatoes, which is a surprisingly subtle difference, although I did put my own spin on this one: used regular onions instead of green, eliminated the cumin & lime juice, and added carrots & peas), Transylvanian Hazelnut Cookies (the honey-butter glaze makes these!), Hazelnut-Vanilla Pancakes, and Mom's Blueberry Muffins. I have had success with all of these recipes, and look forward to trying many more of them.
| | Amazingly helpful book with appetizingly delicious, diverse recipes by S. Swanson (New York, NY) 5 Stars September 08, 2009
In Recipes for the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, Raman Prasad delivers help, hope, and amazingly delicious food appetizingly illustrated. Enjoyably readable, each section is preceded by vignettes, each recipe with history, reminding those using the SCD who suffer with IBD conditions that they are not alone. I highly applaud this book.
