EDITORIAL REVIEWS

Product Description
This book isn't just a guide to beekeeping or a honey cookbook; it's both. No other book on the market provides an in-depth review of beekeeping and what honey is good for and how to use it. Beautifully illustrated, the Backyard Beekeeper is perfect for the health-conscious person who wants to sweeten up their life by saying no to processed sugars and yes to eating organic, healthy food. This book is the complete "honey bee" resource with general information on bees; a how-to guide to the art of bee keeping and how to set up, care for, and harvest your own hives; as well as tons of fun facts and projects that are bee related. The second half of the book is the complete guide to honey. It reviews the different types of honey and their health effects as well as provides hundreds of ideas and recipes for using honey in recipes, cosmetically in facemasks and shampoos, and for medicinal uses.

This book is full of all the info a person wanted to know to start seriously thinking about beekeeping. From a beginners standpoint this is an excellent book. This book is packed full of information and an excellent reference. If you're rally interest in becoming a beekeeper you must read this title: The Complete Book Of Beekeeping

Best beekeeping book ever. by Richard Waite (New England) 5 Stars
September 12, 2009
Great book for beginners or someone looking to learn and expand. covers a bit of everything with great big color pictures. We all know a picture is worth at least a 1000 words, right? Well if the words had to be written, not pictured, this book would be to heavy to carry around.

The best book for a beginning beekeeper by K. Redden (Deep South) 5 Stars
August 27, 2009
I like this book and as far as I know, all of the information in the book is factual and is presented in a easy to understand fashion. Beekeeping is kind of hard to get started in, just because there are several ways to do the same thing. This book takes most of the mystery out of starting a hive and the maintenance that goes into keeping it.

Great Reference book by Sanddra P. Hays (Pelham, NC) 5 Stars

As someone who knows absolutely nothing about beekeeping, I have found this book very valuable; it covers all aspects of beekeeping, and provides explanations / details in language I can understand

Great Pictures vs. Poor Organization by J. L. Maurer (Michigan, USA) 3 Stars
July 07, 2009
This book has fantastic pictures of everything from lighting a smoker to waggle dances to frames of capped brood. I've read many beekeeping books, and none compare. The text, however, leaves much to be desired. As mentioned by others, the type is very small and is often printed over other items and hard to read. The subjects don't seem to be logically organized, and the index is insufficient. When I noticed many bees fanning on the front entrance of my new hive, I couldn't find any mention of "heat" or "temperature" in either the table of contents or the index. I stumbled across a mention of fanning being common behavior in queenless colonies, and panicked until the afternoon shadows cooled the hive and the fanning stopped! Enjoy and learn from the pictures, but don't count on this as a comprehensive reference.

Natural Beekeeping: Organic Approaches to Modern Apiculture

Natural Beekeeping: Organic Approaches to Modern Apiculture
by Ross Conrad (Author), Gary Paul Nabhan (Foreword)

The various chemicals used in beekeeping have, for the past decades, held Varroa Destructor, a mite, and other major pests at bay, but chemical-resistance is building and evolution threatens to overtake the best that laboratory chemists have to offer. In fact, there is evidence that chemical treatments are making the problem worse. Natural Beekeeping flips the script on traditional approaches by proposing a program of selective breeding and natural hive management.
