| an ok buy by D. Gattermeir (St.Charles, MO) 3 Stars November 21, 2009 Since I already know a lot about this area, I didn't get a whole lot out of it. Guess it would be good for someone new to this train of thought. My clients find the title "For Dummies" insulting.
| | Eye-opening book by Marilou Diamond 5 Stars November 13, 2009 This is a good eye-opening book about the correct eating lifestyle to help you lose weight and maintain a healthy body. It explains how the low-glycemic effect works, and what you need to do. You will need to plan your trip to the grocery store to get the correct items you will need to follow the recipes. Only about 1/3 of the recipes were anything I'd want to make, and I'm not a picky eater. I went thru the book and put foil stars on the recipes I wanted to make, or did make to simplify things. The only thing that was not in there was the "glycemic load factor" list for many other foods that you might eat along with the actual recipe you prepared; for instance a peanut butter sandwich to help fill you up, along with the hard-boiled egg and piece of fruit. Makes the load factor a guess, and since you need to keep count during the day, just like calories, you don't know how much to add. So, be committed, if you're going to try this lifestyle change.

| | Great information, expensive/hard to find ingredients by Cali Girl (San Antonio by way of NC) 3 Stars August 14, 2009 I was recently diagnosed with insulin resistance, so I jumped right on the Low Glycemic train. I love the Complete Idiot's Guide to 20-minute meals, so I thought this would be the best place to start. The first part of the book has lots of helpful information, and each recipe shows all the nutritional content. The downside is that a lot of the recipes include expensive ingredients or ingredients that I can't find anywhere, such as Hi-Maize and Xylitol and Soy Flour. My only resort would be ordering online. With the 20 min meals book, I could almost always flip it open and find something to make with what I already had in the house.
The fruit recipes are plentiful, but as someone who loves fruit, I can eat tons of it and don't need the bother of cooking it. But for those who find it hard to get in their daily servings, they would probably be great. I also found that many of the recipes involve a lot of meat and though there is a small vegetarian section, those recipes don't look stellar. I would say, if you're a vegetarian, a picky eater or on a budget, maybe just try looking up recipes online.
| | A new level of delicious eating by Sara Sunshine (Alexandria, VA) 5 Stars April 16, 2009 You'll forget these are healthy good-for-you recipes, they taste so good and offer so much variety. Check out the Pecan-Crusted French Toast, Pomegranate Flank Steak, and Flourless Cherry Chip Cookies. These bring a new level of succulent food to the table of anyone who wants to lose weight or eat for health as well as for those who love great food. The authors satisfied my sweet tooth yet avoided using artificial sweeteners.
I'll cook these recipes for my family and for guests, too.
