EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description For family members of people with borderline personality disorder (BPD), home life is routinely unpredictable and frequently unbearable. Extreme mood swings, impulsive behaviors, and suicidal tendencies—common conduct among those who suffer from the disorder—leave family members feeling confused, hurt, and helpless. In her pioneering first book Stop Walking on Eggshells, co-authored with Paul T. Mason, Randi Kreger outlined the fundamental differences in the way that people with borderline personality disorder (BPD) relate to the world. Now, with The Essential Family Guide to Borderline Personality Disorder, she takes readers to the next level, giving them straightforward tools to get off the emotional roller coaster and repair relationships with loved ones with BPD. Kreger answers the questions family members most want to ask about: the symptoms and treatment of BPD, including why BPD is so misdiagnosed; how symptoms can differ by age and gender; and how addiction and other disorders complicate BPD. She then outlines how families can set boundaries and communicate differently in order to help themselves and their loved ones cope with this bewildering form of mental illness. |

| Hooray! by WiseWoman (South Eastern USA) 5 Stars October 18, 2009 This author saved my life! The first book awakened me to what I was struggling with in a parent. This one is sure to help me when I read it, too.
| | Wonderful Information by Maggie (Atlanta, GA) 5 Stars August 27, 2009 A critical book for anyone dealing with BPD. Particularly good information on how to function if you have a BP in your family - full of the do's and don'ts. If you are seeking more general information about BPD in order to understand it or figure out if your family member, friend or associate is BP this is an excellent resource. It would be fabulous if law enforcement from the police officers to the judges understood BPD as well as other mental health issues and this would be a great must read for them.
| | Very informative Book by G. Shippy 5 Stars June 30, 2009 This Book gave me excellent Informative information to this disease.
It was also read by my family members, and was helpful to them to understand the effectiveness of this disease. Thanks for a good book. It will help save a lot of stress in there lives and a boost to get help and counseling, and how to live and cope with this disorder.
| | Interesting, but I don't agree with it all by Elle Martin 3 Stars June 17, 2009 This book helped to explain and confirm which behaviors are typical of Borderline Personality Disorder. However, it also explains that BPDs have actual changes in their brains and they really can't help how they are. I find that hard to believe--why can our family's High-functioning BPD act perfectly normal at her job, church, community functions, etc....and yet at home to her family she is always lying, raging, fighting, blaming, scheming, etc? Seems to me that if it were a brain abnormality it should result in consistent behaviors in any setting.
Also, the techniques that the author recommends were not effective in our case, and didn't do anything to alleviate our need to 'walk on eggshells'. Although there was good advice about the need for family members to take care of themselves.
| | Tools, Techniques, and Hope by Susan MacHugh 5 Stars June 01, 2009 Randi Kreger's new book is beyond amazing and a must read! She uncovers the who, what, where, when, and whys of Borderline Personality Disorder with the skills of a detective. With scientific knowledge based on interviews with other clinicians and professionals, Randi exposes the reader to a greater understanding of personality disorders. With the tools and techniques explored in detail, family members affected by loved ones with borderline personality disorder are given the gift of knowledge, encouragement, and hope!
