Product Description
Using this science-based plan, dieters will learn how to eat in order to boost serotonin, the brain chemical that shuts off appetite and turns on feelings of calm. This clinically tested program is also the first to offer antidepressant users an effective way to lose extra weight associated with their medication. The Serotonin Power Diet is based on more than 30 years of pioneering research at MIT by internationally renowned scientist Dr. Judith Wurtman on the brain, emotions, appetite, and overeating. Using this research, she and Dr. Nina Marquis devised a program that puts the brain in charge of food intake. This simple 12-week plan, with more than 75 delicious recipes, was successfully tested on hundreds of clients at the Adara weight loss centers founded by the authors. Readers will lose up to 2 pounds a week—while reducing stress and improving their moods.Because the plan is designed to turn on serotonin and turn off the need to eat, readers will never feel deprived. In addition, as serotonin increases feelings of well-being, emotional eating will vanish.

Saved My Life by Book Bag (Long Island, New York) 5 Stars
June 10, 2009
It's only been 3 days, so maybe I am being premature, but thus far this book has saved my life. Even thin I always suffered from binges and an out of control sweet tooth. A move to the suburbs, constant driving, and not much social activity, helped get me to the size 16 I am now. Finally, as I am in the arts, tired of being cast as the fat unattractive girl for the last time, I bought this book. Although it was against all that I'd been told regarding amino acids, I figured what the heck. I knew I was low on serotonin, however, I had no interest in anti-depressants. I don't care what doctor's say, no good can come from something that makes you feel so mechanical. It's day three I skipped my 3 pm chocolate, cake, or cookie indulgence. An idulgence that a lot of times turns into a binge. It has been effortless, no will power involved. I can actually concentrate. I am reading documents all the way through. I can't believe it. I am not thinking about food all the time. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

A Diet NOT to Dread by Harry I. Shuman (Ossining, NY USA) 5 Stars
May 19, 2009
In the late 1960s while still in high school, I followed the Weight Watchers diet and remained slim through my early 40s. Suddenly, my "thermostat" got reset and I went from size 31 slacks to 33 and eventually landed at 38. I have tried diets that rapidly have brought me down to 34 - never lower - but the whole time I was on them, I couldn't wait to get off so I could eat what I truly craved. Except during a stint or two on Atkins, it was never simply carbohydrates I craved. I craved a bit of everything. I started the Serotonin Power Diet three weeks ago. I have lost 9 pounds, but more importantly, I am rarely hungry and I am not looking forward to the day when I can get off the diet. I am finding that there is enough room and variation to have anything I desire so I don't feel that deprivation I felt on the other diets. Instead of counting the weeks until I can get off of it, I'm satisfied with my day to day progress and feel like this diet will actually get me to where I want to be and allow me to stay there.
