| Great book by Anne Duffy 5 Stars April 11, 2009 This is a very well written book. It tells a very scary story of almost losing a loved one. This book helped me personally because I too suffered a cardiac arrest. It was good to read about someone else who went through the same thing and it made me realize what my family went through as well. A must read!
| | Words to help me cope with my Sudden Cardiac Arrest by T. Heinle (Rapid City) 4 Stars March 26, 2009 It was hard to understand what I was feeling and this book helped me meet someone else going through a very similar situation. It helped me cope. Jeremy did a great job writing this from a spouses' perspective. It was right on with what my husband was feeling. It also helped steer me towards some great resources.
| | Jeremy Hits the Mark! by Cathy Hall (Peterborough, Ontario, Canada) 5 Stars January 02, 2009 I am a cardiac arrest survivor. I owe my life to CPR, an AED and 2 police officers.
People often say to me "wow, it must have been something to go through that". My reply is always "it was very difficult for my family, but I have no recollection of it". The reality is - I was not conscious and I have no memory of the event at all.
Jeremy Whitehead's "A Heart Too Good to Die" explained SO much for me. I now have a view of what my family endured; I also now have a better understanding of what actually happened to me. During an event like that, facts and medical terms mean nothing. Fear is the emotion that completely takes over.
Jeremy's writing put everything in perspective for me. I worried, chuckled and pondered right along with him while I was reading this book. I was pulling for Carolyn. I sympathized with her colleagues who were with her that day. (I too suffered a cardiac arrest while at a seminar out of town for work).
My family took me through the paces of what happened; relayed what was "done" to me, and explained how I reacted. I thought I understood. This book took my fuzzy view and zoomed the focus lens. I am grateful to Jeremy for taking me on his journey. He's a beautiful writer. I'm an avid reader, and this book not only made me laugh and cry, it spoke to me personally.
Whether you or your loved ones have suffered heart disease or not, I highly recommend it.
| | Very accurate account - very helpful in my own recovery by Jerry (Austin, TX United States) 5 Stars August 31, 2008 I had a sudden cardiac arrest in March of this year. It took the EMTs 21min and 6 shocks to get my heart beat back. Miraculously, I made a full physical and cognitive recovery. Another part of the healing process was of course with my family. They endured something which was very difficult for me to understand. I was unconscious, on breathing machines and sedated. Reading this book completed the picture for me. It allowed me to experience the event from their perspective. Everyone in my family has read this book. As a result we have had a lot of open discussion about what happened and how it has effected all of us. This has been very important for us all to heal and move forward with the blessing we received with my recovery.
| | Gripping account by Angel Ioannou (Dulwich Hill, Australia) 4 Stars June 10, 2008 Jeremy's novel is a powerful account of Carolyn's sudden illness and the road to recovery. His description turn the account into a page turner and the terrific outcome with Carolyn full recovery. I found the emotional elements very provoking and reminded me on how much we take for granted good health in life and the fragility of life itself. For someone looking to understand the human element of SCA this is provides a lot of background.
