EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description The Statue of Liberty is an ancient goddess. But why are there seven rays emanating from her crown? And why was the torch switched from her left to her right hand? Did you know that the 13 stars and stripes are not simply to honor the 13 colonies? Or why the six-pointed stars on the original American flag were changed to five-pointed stars? Did you know the CBS eye logo is considered by many to be the eye of the devil watching over us? Were you aware that the Washington Monument resembles an Egyptian obelisk channeling energy? America is young, but its symbols are old. Of the symbols and myths we chose since European colonization, the ones that have become American icons are those representing hope, positive growth, and opportunity. Many of the symbols included in The United Symbolism of America have become so familiar that most of us don't give them a second glance, let alone a second thought. Unfortunately, our patriotic symbols today have become so commonplace that, at best, we associate them with politicians we support. At worst, some believe that all American symbols are evil and Satanic. Hundreds of corporate logos are supposedly linked to this evil conspiracy and proof of its existence. Author Robert R. Hieronimus will help you see the symbolic messages encoded for us by our Founding Fathers in the symbols they chose. Unlike other writers on this topic, Hieronimus includes the historical background and the artistic influences behind the official design of each of these landmarks. In addition, he gives an archetypal interpretation based on the numbers, colors, patterns, and themes, and their usage in societies around the world. |

| Disappointing!!!! by Monalisa (Tennessee) 1 Stars September 06, 2009 I did not even get thru the first page when I realized "I can't believe I bought this book" without looking anything up about the author...I saw a special on TV on Symbols of America and I thought wow this would be interesting to read..well I picked the wrong book...This guy is totally anti-christian, George Bush hater...I just wondered what did this have to to with Symbols of America???
I didnt buy the book to hear the authors opinion about George Bush and his anti christian views, ....which he exploited in the intro, which is as far as I got. I turned around and sold it on Marketplace, still makes me mad because I lost money on this deal...
| | Dr. Hieronimus: A Member of the Community of Scholars by George Aiken (Windsor, CA USA) 5 Stars May 07, 2009 The following was posted as a comment in response to a review that questioned the legitimacy of Dr. Hieronimus' Doctoral credentials:
Dr. Bob Hieronimus' alma mater, Saybrook Graduate School, is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, the west coast regional accreditation body. Since its inception in 1970, Saybrook has awarded degrees to approximately 930 students. This is an average of 25 graduates per year. Early classes included 10 to 20 degree recipients, while recent classes have numbered from 40 to 50 graduates per year. Saybrook is certainly not a "diploma mill."
I am a Saybrook alumnus myself and attended a highly respected "brick and mortar" graduate school prior to matriculating at Saybrook. I can personally attest to the fact that Saybrook's Masters and Doctoral programs are richer, more rewarding, and at least as academically challenging as the educational environment at the graduate school I had previously attended, and which I left in excellent standing. Receiving my graduate degrees from Saybrook has truly prepared me to be a member of the community of scholars.
Saybrook counts among its alumni many outstanding and accomplished members of society. Monica Dixon, PhD '98 is one of the nation's leading experts on obesity, particularly among women and children. Her book, Love the Body You were Born With, written in 1996 (while she was studying at Saybrook), sold millions of copies and remains a popular title on the women's health bookshelf. Dr. Dixon's groundbreaking work on school nutrition in Washington state earned her an award from the Centers for Disease Control in 2005.
Father Brian Kolodiejchuk, PhD '01 is the Superior General or head of Mother Teresa's Order of the Fathers of Charity, and the author of the internationally acclaimed Mother Teresa: Come Be My Light-The Private Writings of the Saint of Calcutta. He met Mother Teresa in 1977 and was associated with her until her death in 1997. Dr. Kolodiejchuk joined the Missionaries of Charity Fathers at the time of their foundation in 1984, and is postulator of the Cause of Beatification and Canonization of Mother Teresa of Calcutta.
This is a very small sampling of Saybrook's outstanding alumni. For more information about Saybrook and its world class faculty and alumni, please go to www.saybrook.edu.
Sincerely and respectfully,
George A. Aiken, MA, PhD

| | Recommended Reading by Stanley Krippner (San Francisco, CA) 5 Stars May 06, 2009 I found this book intriguing and well documented, but I do not understand why one of the reviewers attacked Dr. Hieronymous simply because he graduated from a fully accredited, at-a-distance graduate school. There are dozens of at-a-distance graduate programs in the United States, and they only deserve the (potentially libelous) sobriquet "diploma mill" if they are unaccredited and demand no rigorous work from their students. Faculty members of Saybrook Graduate School, on the other hand, have been presidents of more divisions of the American Psychological Association than those from any other school (tied with the University of Florida). Hence, I recommend The United Symbolism of America to those readers interested in history, semiotics, or both.

The United Symbolism of America by Robert Hieronimus Ph. D
Hieronimus got his degree from Saybrook Graduate School in San Francisco.
They specialize in humanist psychology courses and 'distance learning.'
This is a euphemism for a diploma mill.
It is reminiscent of author John Gray Ph. D. (Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus). Gray received his PhD from unaccredited Columbia Pacific University after completing a correspondence course in 1982. He was featured prominently in Columbia Pacific's marketing literature in the 1990s prior to its subsequent court-ordered shutdown in 2000. CPU was run out of the back of a Spokane hardware store, if memory serves.
I was also reminded of Dr. Nick Begich and his worthless book 'Controlling the Human Mind.' Begich received his degree from The Open International University for Complementary Medicines, which is run from halfway around the world in Columbo, Sri Lanka. One is compelled to inquire how stringent the entrance exams are over there?
My guess is that it would be as difficult as getting into that clown college in Akron, Ohio.
But getting back to Hieronomus, there isn't symbol that he doesn't like or can't explain away as innocuous coincidence. Freemasons are all good guys and woefully misunderstood. The all-seeing eye is a good thing and all of those symbols on the
back of the dollar bill don't portend anything but good will and hail fellow well met, etc....He dedicates the book to his hero, the evil atheist Bertrand Russell, so this is our first clue that his affiliations are going to be highly suspect. He is also a fellow traveler of David Ovason. another obscurantist and adept of some sort. I didn't highlight anything in Ovason's book 'The Secret Zodiacs of Washington,' which was endorsed by the Scottish Rite.
Mr. Hieronimus pretty much spends the entire book bashing Christians, who he says tend to see evil portents in many of the symbols percolating through the American brainscape. Hmmmmmmm, I wonder why?
There is very little information in the book that is useful due to the extreme bias he accuses others of harboring (he badmouths Icke, Epperson, Marrs etc).
Please avoid this book.
It is a giant step backwards in decoding the midnight cant language employed by our secret masters....
Rather, purchase `Secret Societies & Psychological Warfare' by Michael Hoffman. Mr. Hoffman is the real deal...
