Product Description
One of the most important unsolved problems of current physics, astronomy, and cosmology is the nature of dark matter and dark energy. These two invisible components of the universe seem to control the behavior of galaxies, clusters of galaxies, and the accelerating expansion of the universe, but we do not know what they are. Dark Matters offers a unified explanation for dark matter and dark energy, and, in doing so, formulates a new theory of ordinary matter. Central to this new theory is the concept of electric lines of force, encased in something called insulating space, which means we are generally not aware of them, just as we are not aware of the currents passing through insulated cables. The essential feature of Dark Matters that sets it apart from similar titles is that it sees the whole universe as a tapestry. The background "material" of this tapestry is the space-time framework of Einstein's theories of relativity. The threads of the tapestry are magnetic and electric lines of force. The magnetic lines of force originate from planets and stars; many exist as independent threads that weave their way in the vast spaces that separate the stars of galaxies. Sure to be discussed and debated in international scientific professional societies, Dark Matters is a fascinating, essential, and accessible book for anyone interested in exploring the frontiers of physics and cosmology.

Plasma space theory by Bruce Scofield (Amherst, MA) 4 Stars
August 31, 2009
The title of the book is a bit misleading as it suggests that it is about dark matter and dark energy. While they are certainly considered and explained in ways that are different from those of other scientists, the book is essentially a compact summary of the historical developments in physics and astrophysics which have led to the present situation and its problems in those fields. Like Lee Smolin (The Trouble with Physics) Percy Seymour doesn't see much hope for string theory nor, for that matter, with the relentless search for a theory of everything. He is a practical thinker and more concerned with how things actually work, and he is especially interested in the electro-magnetic force. In a short section of the book he presents his own plasma space theory which is based on the existence of electric lines of force that permeate space - but the explanation is too brief. This theory is claimed to resolve discrepancies between relativity and quantum mechanics, and also explain dark energy and dark matter. For the most part, the book is an excellent summary of all the major events in Newtonian, Maxwellian, Einsteinian and Quantum physics with a lot of attention given to cosmic magnetism, a topic also covered in a book by this author.

Connected? by Christopher Augustin (Philadelphia, PA) 4 Stars
August 18, 2008
Dark Matters offers a very informative, fast-paced book covering many areas of astronomy and the interconnectedness of our universe. Understanding how astronomers discovered the properties and characteristics of our universal bodies was truly amazing considering the amount of work put into observing things so far away. Since having changed my religious beliefs over many years, I have come to believe that everything is truly connected. This book explains scientifically, how that can be possible!

Fascinating read by Love to learn (New York) 5 Stars

Dr. Seymour's Dark Matter is a fascinating and accessible read. I believe that we are all connected and Dr. Percy confirmed my belief system. My book club read the book and we haven't been able to stop discussing his theories about the magnetic lines that connect us to the planets, stars and galaxies. I highly recommend this book, it is a real eye opener.

Dark Side of the Universe: Dark Matter, Dark Energy, and the Fate of the Cosmos
by Iain Nicolson (Author)

Once we thought the universe was filled with shining stars, dust, planets, and galaxies. We now know that more than 98 percent of all matter in the universe is dark. It emits absolutely nothing yet bends space and time; keeps stars speeding around galaxies; and determines the fate of the universe.

But dark matter is only part of the story. Scientists have recently discovered that the expansion of the universe is speeding up, driven by a mysterious commodity called dark energy....

In Search of Dark Matter (Springer Praxis Books / Space Exploration)

In Search of Dark Matter (Springer Praxis Books / Space Exploration)
by Ken Freeman (Author), Geoff McNamara (Author)

The dark matter problem is one of the most fundamental and profoundly difficult problems in the history of science. Not knowing what makes up most of the mass in the Universe goes to the heart of our understanding of the Universe and our place in it. In Search of Dark Matter is the story of the emergence of the dark matter problem, from the initial 'discovery' of dark matter by Jan Oort to contemporary explanations for the nature of dark matter and its role in the origin and evolution of the...

Einstein's Telescope: The Hunt for Dark Matter and Dark Energy in the Universe
by Evalyn Gates (Author)

Cutting-edge astrophysics that builds on Einstein's theories to find the unseen matter that fills the Universe. Dark energy. Dark matter. These strange and invisible substances don't just sound mysterious: their unexpected appearance in the cosmic census is upending long-held notions about the nature of the Universe. Astronomers have long known that the Universe...

Antimatter

Antimatter
by Frank Close (Author)

Of all the mind-bending discoveries of physics--quarks, black holes, strange attractors, curved space--the existence of antimatter is one of the most bizarre. It is also one of the most difficult, literally and figuratively, to grasp.
Antimatter explores this strange mirror world, where particles have identical yet opposite properties to those that make up the familiar matter we encounter everyday, where left becomes right, positive becomes negative, and where--should matter and...

Dark Cosmos: In Search of Our Universe's Missing Mass and Energy

Dark Cosmos: In Search of Our Universe's Missing Mass and Energy
by Dan Hooper (Author)

Everyone knows that there are things no one can see, for example, the air you're breathing or a black hole, to be more exotic. But not everyone knows that what we can see makes up only 5 percent of the Universe. The rest is totally invisible to us.

The invisible stuff comes in two varieties—dark matter and dark energy. One holds the Universe together while the other tears it apart. What these forces really are has been a mystery for as long as anyone has suspected they were...
