Product Description
Statins are the so-called "wonder drugs" widely prescribed to lower blood cholesterol levels that claim to offer unparalleled protection against heart disease. Many experts claim that they are completely safe and that they are also capable of preventing a whole series of other conditions. This groundbreaking study exposes the truth behind the hype surrounding statins and reveals a number of crucial facts, including that high cholesterol levels do not cause heart disease; that high-fat diets—saturated or otherwise—do not affect blood cholesterol levels; and that for most men and all women the benefits offered by statins are negligible at best. Other data is also provided that shows that statins have many more side affects than is often acknowledged. This hard-hitting survey also points a finger at the powerful pharmaceutical industry and an unquestioning medical profession as perpetrators of the largely facetious concepts of “good” and “bad” cholesterol that are designed to convince millions of people to spend billions on statins. With clarity and wit, this appeal to common sense and scientific fact debunks common assumptions on what constitutes a healthy lifestyle and diet, as well as the idea that there is a miracle cure for heart disease.

The Great Cholesterol Con by squodgy (Florida) 5 Stars

This book, whilst admittedly flippant in parts, shows the total frustration the author, a fully qualified & practicing Doctor, feels at the cynical and dismissive way we mere gullable mortals, the source of the bottom line, are being treated by the drug companies worldwide. Dr. Kendrick systematically takes a laser to every slick justification for statins, whilst gently and amusingly directing us to the real facts and explaining their place in the big picture, for us to theoretically apply logic. My own experiece with Lipitor, (joint pain, short term memory loss etc) and first hand stories of similar suffering leading up to total liver failure in people I knew, reaped responses from the junket riddled medical practitioner profession of 'surprise' and 'surely nothing to do with Lipitor', or 'I've never come across that before', prompting my search deeper into Google looking for serious blogs from fellow sufferers. After sorting through the drug company sponsored glorifying nonsense on the first couple of pages, and adding words like 'records of joint pain from statins' or 'is there any really independant evidence that statins actually reduce deaths through heart disease?' to the search parameters, I came across a plethora of sorry and occasionally shocking tales. I can only hope that this, and the few other good books on this subject of corporate greed at the expense of Joe Public, will soon be exposed for what it is and result in the appropriate class action, which SHOULD hopefully cause a re-think in the way we are treated, not just medically but respectfully!

Good reading if you mind is open to views that are not main stream. If you want to treat your real heart issues.

A Big Decision by Koeeaddi (Denver) 5 Stars

I have always had elevated cholesterol levels. At the age of 47, a cat scan revealed 0 calcification in my arteries. I had an ultrasound of the carotid artery at age 54, which no doubt showed some plaque, and my physician, who is quite conservative (avoids unnecessary treatment), suggested I take a statin drug. I decided to do some research on the subject, before interfering with the metabolism of my liver, and lowering the levels of a chemical that makes up 2% of my brain by weight. I have always known that there is no link between low cholesterol diets and cholesterol blood levels, and that as a man gets older, cholesterol levels cannot be linked to mortality. I believe that this is clear medicine. Dr. Kendrick lays all the rest to rest with very convincing arguments about the statistics, epidemiology and science involved with the massive clinical trials of statin drugs. The book states that unless you are male that has suffered a heart attack, statins have never been shown to increase life span, have never been shown to have any effects on mortality and morbidity in women, and even the most rosy studies show only the most insignificant effects on cardiac disease. My choice is to avoid statins, and not worry about my cholesterol levels. This book is worth the read so that you can weigh the risks and benefits, if any, of statin drugs.

Excellent book by John Stoker (Australia) 5 Stars

Written is a "conversational" easy to become absorbed style - I found my interest level in reading this book not unlike enjoying a good novel. The hard statistics are alarming in what is revealed about cholesterol as not the bogey man after all. I recommend this book be read by non medical and medical sector personnel.

This book was in "just like new" condition. The information in this book was very good and helpful and was very impressed by what I learned. I enjoy reading books like this to know more about heart disease and alternative matters.

Hidden Truth about Cholesterol-Lowering Drugs

As a drug chemist for a leading pharmaceutical company I made a startling discovery: you do not have to be dependent on FDA approved drugs to avoid heart disease. In fact, research clearly shows the opposite. You don't need a single prescription drug to avoid this killer.

Consider this: FDA approved drugs, used as prescribed, are killing over 125,000 people every year. Nationally, this makes prescription drugs the fourth leading cause of death after cancer, heart disease and stroke. ...

Did you know that...

*The angiogram used for recommending procedures on the heart is highly inaccurate and that most angiograms are not necessary.

*There is no evidence that coronary bypass surgery or balloon angioplasties extend life, yet over 600,000 of these procedures are being done each year.

*Blood cholesterol levels are ineffective in determining heart attack risk and much more accurate measurements exist but are seldom used.
