| A must read, even if you THINK you know it all about NOS! by L. Balog (Florida) 5 Stars March 17, 2010 On the track, there are so many people that are experts. The system they have is the best, or what they are going to put on is better.Lots of cars have blown engines that were boosted by these know-it-alls. When you mention Wizards of NOS.. You get a LOT of funny looks and generally. "It's only THEIR product". Trevor has written an amazing book that the smallest of gear heads can read and understand. There are decades of experience and R&D in what he has written. Trevor is an amazing man and the most approachable person you ever met. If there's anything in the book, you don't understand or you have a vehicle you want to boost with his system.. He is always a phone call away or on the forum. How many how to books can you find that the author will actually speak to you. I'm no lay person when it comes to cars, but I am no where near an expert and this book was very easy to understand as to the why's, how's, and what fors.
I purchased his book to learn more as we were on the verge of blowing up our drag car with the "cheapie" kit. OMG, we were doing SO many things wrong that would have cost us our motor at the end. We made contact with Trevor and waited.
While my husband and myself were having this trouble with a "cheap" NOS system on our 70' Camaro. Trevor happened to be in our area for the Top Gun Run and stopped in to help. We couldn't be happier. He is an amazing gentleman and a wealth of information. He is a wonderful teacher, both in his books and in the flesh. You can tell his book is his because when he is speaking to you in description, it's almost verbatim how it's written.
If you are planning on putting nitrous on your car, do serious research and at the very least buy this book, study up, visit the Wizards of NOS forum and ask questions. If you already have NOS that's not a WON system..still, buy the book and rediscover NOS.
| | More direct port, less sale pitch. by Tristan R. Kovatis (CT) 3 Stars August 22, 2009 The information available in this book was good overall, and explained Nitrous setup well enough. There was a lack of in depth Direct port setups. Any information and opinion regarding the benefits of certain component designs have to be taking with caution however. Immediately following any cons of a certain component design is immediately followed by the shear "awesomeness" of the authors company's product.
All together 3/5 due to the quality of the info available. I would NOT solely rely on this book combined with internet research alone, BUT I'd definitely pair this book with Corky Bells Maximum Boost, as well as Jeff Hatman's Nitrous Oxide Performance Handbook and general internet research.
| | Simply a treatise in self-promotion! by the engineer 1 Stars November 04, 2008 This book was a waste of time, since the author writes entirely about his own products, and uses fear tactics to scare you away from other manufacturers. Stay away from books that are this one sided. A less biased view would make this book more credible.
| | Advertised Nitrous-But It's the TRUTH! by Chris Difani (Sacramento, California, USA) 5 Stars October 03, 2008 I have been involved with supercharged engines for years, along with all the other types of "power adders". But at long last, in my current restomod project, I came to the decision that I'm going to add NOS. And with that short declaration, I started the knowledge search. Magazines, Internet mags, blogs, and books. I think I spent close to $200 on books. Which leads me to this review, on the nitrous book that's written by Trevor Langfield, of England.
When you start reading his book, you notice that he's not American. He's not a shy, quiet, "don't mention the fact that I make my living with nitrous" kind of guy, maybe they're different in Europe.
But no matter the "kind of guy", his knowledge, experience, and willingness to share it, is outstanding. Mr. Langfield does state the benefits of using his products, or his companie's products. But he fully compares each of the aspects with the "industry standard", and then with his products. There isn't one time where he's incorrect. And what's even better, by the time you finish the book, you have an excellent overview of the current "state of the art" of nitrous oxide use in cars. In addition to your increased level of knowledge, you also now know what is the best points to look for, in nitrous oxide equipment.
Mr. Langfield points out that his products do exhibit those "best" points. But he also goes to great depths to ensure that the reader understands why those points are important. Once the reader has that knowledge, the reader can make their own purchasing decision.
Nitrous is a powerful technology, and also has the capability to cause serious damage if it's not treated with respect. By the time you finish Mr. Langfields book, you will have the needed knowledge. You will know what equipment is good, and, even more important, why it's good.
We all know that it is easy to waste money. It's easy to buy "less than the best". The trick is to find the best, and to recognize it when we see it. Mr. Langfield has made that process much easier for me, and I believe that anyone else who reads his book will also do so.
As a note; one of the reviews stated that Mr. Langfield's book was 120 pages of advertising. Well, yes.... and NO. Mr. Langfield is an expert in nitrous. He knows what is the best. And with that knowledge he manufactured the best parts, and systems for those of us who lack the time, or knowledge to do it ourselves. However, in his book he freely shows us why he makes the parts and systems, the way he does. He explains the differences. And that isn't something you find in advertising.
I learned a great deal through my reading of his book, and others. And in the past 4 months, of all that I've learned, read, and discovered, I could have saved myself a lot of effort, time, and money, if I had simply bought and read his book first.
And that's my opinion, and review of Nitrous Oxide, High Performance Manual. You won't go wrong by buying it!

| | 112 page advertisement by M. Robinson (Southern CA, USA) 1 Stars February 25, 2008 I am considering using nitrous oxide on a couple of my project cars, and wanted a book that gave some good information about setting up a progressive nitrous controller. I picked this one up and was seriously disappointed.
The book is written by a self-proclaimed nitrous oxide expert from England, Trevor Langfield. In the `About the author' section, written in the third person by the author himself, he details some less-than-impressive racing results on some niche cars of no real interest to the average American performance enthusiast.
Starting at the end of this first section, the book becomes a 112 page advertisement for the author's own company's products, Wizard of NOS. Every chapter is comprised of a brief explanation of the concepts involved (similar to what most manufacturers put in their online FAQ) followed by an explanation of why the WON (author's acronym for his own nitrous product manufacturer, Wizard of NOS) products are superior to all others (even moreso than most manufacturers put in their online FAQ). You may think I am exaggerating - I am not.
Here's a typical example: The second chapter is entitled, "A Basic `Wet' Nitrous Oxide System", and gives a brief description of the components included in a typical wet nitrous system such as bottles, supply lines, and solenoids. In the sub-chapter, "Fuel Supply Adapters" the author offers the following:
"Most kits are supplied with a basic `T' piece that its intended to be fitted in the fuel pipe leading from the fuel pump to the engine's fuel delivery system. WON offers a range of fittings that are vehicle specific to ease this aspect of fitting a nitrous system."
Get the gist? That is the sub-chapter in its entirety. There is no mention of the fact that the `T' connection needs to be after the fuel filter but before the fuel pressure regulator to ensure a clean fuel supply that does not take pressure from the fuel injection system - just that the WON version is top notch.
I have little doubt that his stuff is good, I'm just not used to paying book prices for a catalog. I guess more than anything, I'm annoyed at the author's use of an educational book series to market his products. There is some useful information here, and some of it does make a good case for the superior design of the WON line of nitrous products, but that's not the point. If I want to be talked into buying a specific company's products, I'll look to user reviews and magazine comparo-stories. When I buy a book about a specific technology, I expect objective, unbiased information about that technology and not a marketing brochure for one provider of equipment.
If you are looking for material to help you sell Wizard of NOS products, buy this book. If you are looking, as I was, for technical details of properly setting up a nitrous oxide system, you should probably keep looking.
