EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description In this must-have resource, "two teachers from Minnesota" share their successful use of the simple concept of 5-point scales to help students understand and control their emotional reactions to everyday events that might otherwise set in emotion escalating reactions. Whether it is inappropriate touching, obsessions, yelling, hitting or making hurtful statements to classmates, this clearly illustrated book shows how to break down a given behavior and, with the student’s active participation, develop a unique scale that identifies the problem and, just as important, suggests alternative, positive behaviors at each level of the scale. |

| | autism social scale by D. Fremont 5 Stars April 21, 2009 I am a speech pathologist and work in a middle school. I work with a number of autistic students and have two selective mutes as well in my caseload. This book has helped me with both of these types of students. The classroom teachers have only praise for the effect it has had on the students when they return to class and they too can use the behavioral system.
| | The Incredible 5 Point Scale by C. A. Cloudt (Central Arizona) 5 Stars March 15, 2008 As a teacher of autistic children, this book is invaluable. It is written in language that is easy for my students to understand and follow the directions..... I would be lost with it.
| | 5 Stars for this Hands On Easy to Follow Guide by Joanna Keating-Velasco (Orange County, CA) 5 Stars January 25, 2008
I received this book for Christmas to add to my autism library and what a wonderful treat. I wish I had this books several years ago when I started working in a class with children who have severe autism. It's so basic and has such great sample charts. It breaks down so many behavior challenges and creates simple charts to help you help your students better understand how to self modulate...from Aspergers to severe, these tools work. They seem so basic, yet I have seen them work great over and over. This basic and easy to quickly read resource should be given to every teacher, parent, administrator, speech and occupational therapist who works with kids on the spectrum. It's a great starting point for managing behavior problems...big and small. Check out Ms. Buron's other related books also at www.asperger.net. Joanna Keating-Velasco, Author...
