Product Description
From bestselling author Melissa Good comes a tale of heartache, longing, family strife, lust for love, and redemption. Tropical Storm took the lesbian reading world by storm when it was first written . . . Don't miss this exciting revised "author's cut" edition. Dar Roberts, corporate raider for a multi-national tech company, is cold, practical, and merciless. She does her job with razor-sharp accuracy. Friends are a luxury she cannot allow herself, and love is something she knows she'll never attain. Kerry Stuart left Michigan for Florida in an attempt to get away from her domineering politician father and the constraints of the overly conservative life her family forced upon her. After college she worked her way into supervision at a small tech company, only to have it taken over by Dar Roberts' organization. Her association with Dar begins in disbelief, hatred, and disappointment, but when Dar unexpectedly hires Kerry as her work assistant, the dynamics of their relationship change. Over time, a bond begins to form. But can Dar overcome years of habit and conditioning to open herself up to the uncertainty of love? And will Kerry escape from the clutches of her powerful father in order to live a better life? The answer to both questions is no - unless these two women can strengthen and cement the tenuous bond that forms between them. First they must face storms that neither expects . . . and live to tell the tale.

The disappointments, heartaches, and betrayals experienced by Florida native Dar Roberts have fueled her successful climb up the corporate ladder of the largest information technology company in the world. Dar's ability to separate her emotions from her work has cemented her reputation as a cold-hearted corporate shark. However, an unexpected complication enters her life when her company sends her to finalize the acquisition of a small IT company. For all outside appearances, Kerry Stuart grew up with the proverbial silver spoon in her mouth. However, Kerry escaped the conservative household, beliefs, and ambitions of her politician father by leaving her family in Michigan for a promising opportunity at a small IT company in Miami, Florida. Through her own hard work, instead of her father's connections, Kerry is working in a supervisory position when she learns her life would be taking an unexpected turn due to the acquisition of the small firm by a corporate giant. The fact that Melissa Good's popularity began in Xena: Warrior Princess fan-fiction is apparent in this debut novel. While centered on a cast of characters with great potential, much of Tropical Storm is spent reinforcing the similarities between Xena/Gabrielle and Dar/Kerry, which no doubt plays a role in Tropical Storm's status among Xena fans. While there is no denying the appeal of the physical contrast between Xena and Gabrielle's looks, Good fails to separate her inspiration from her creative side constantly pointing out parallels and similarities between the personalities and life paths of Xena/Gabrielle and Dar/Kerry, ultimately making this novel nothing more than fan fiction in book format, poor editing and all. That point made, Good's detailed descriptions and multi-faceted characters coupled with her sticking to topics she knows (e.g. information technology, Miami, scuba diving, etc.) make for an entertaining and pleasurable experience.

A True Classic by ChuChu 5 Stars

Maybe I'm wrong, but I believe in 10-20 years, this one will be sitting right along side such titles as "Rubyfruit Jungle", "Fingersmith", "Curious Wine" and "Stone Butch Blues" as one of the bedrock classics of lesbian literature (and let's face it, Dar riding to the rescue in a Navy Tomcat is pretty damn cool.)

One of Best Uber by Amy E. Begay (new mexico usa) 5 Stars

I think of all of Melissa Good's books this one was the best one. I don't have the copy pictured here, I think I have an older version. Anyway Kerry is a young woman just coming into her own away from the strict and oppressive atmosphere of her home and being a Senator's daughter. Dar is the ultimate corporate shark. Actually she takes over other companies chews them up and takes what she needs for her own companies' agenda. Their fates collide when Kerry's employer is to taken over by Dar's bigger company. What follows is just good story telling of thier journey to discovering what they have in each other. Of course putting Dar in a Tomcat jet fighter was something I never expected. And it does not matter how many times I have read this book, it always leaves a warm place inside of me. Thanks Melissa for sharing this story.
