EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Endoscopic/laparoscopic extraperitoneal radical prostatectomy (EERPE) has become established as a therapeutic option for localized prostate cancer. This book is an atlas, not a conventional textbook. Its main goal is to guide the urologist step by step through EERPE, aiming to make this highly standardized technique reproducible. Every stage of the procedure is presented with numerous endoscopic images and diagrams so that the reader can fully comprehend the different surgical steps. Complications and their management are described in detail. Special chapters are devoted to the anatomy of the prostate, anesthesiological considerations, and postoperative management and training. |

| From a patient's perspective - not enough on robotics by Guitar Player 4 Stars September 01, 2009 I'm a guy with prostate cancer, about to have a robotic prostatectomy. I'm not a doctor/surgeon. I'm an engineer by profession. I bought this because I wanted to know what I was getting myself in for. The book stresses the conventional laparoscopic technique which in general terms seems equivalent to the robotic technique - at least from the business ends of the various instruments.
There are no videos using robotics.
The book left me with the strong impression that the level of expertise needed to do this laparoscopoically WITHOUT the assistance of the robot requires some phenomenal dexterity and precision and probably a very high learning curve. This book and the videos (along with other web videos I've seen showing robotic cardiovascular bypass surgery) left me with a strong appreciation for the "steady hand" of the robot and happy with the decision I've made.
The book also goes into useful info about anesthesia, lymph node biopsies, potential complications and their mitigations as well as some useful info about post op recovery. I'm a big believer in taking ownership of my own health and this book helped me to ask my doctors good questions and understand the complex procedure.
