EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description The author describes the stochastic (probabilistic) approach to the study of changes in the climate system. Climatic data and theoretical considerations suggest that a large part of climatic variation/variability has a random nature and can be analyzed using the theory of stochastic processes. This work summarizes the results of processing existing records of climatic parameters as well as appropriate theories: from the theory of random processes (based on the results of Kolmogorov and Yaglom) and Hasselmann's "stochastic climate model theory" to recently obtained results. |

| A book for those who are really curious about climate 5 Stars March 06, 2000 There have been enormous number of books with dynamic and/or statistical approach to climate variations. This book is the first scientific monograph where climate variability is being viewed through stochastic theory. The author starts with the very basic things of stochastic theory processes in climate applications so that I can recommend this book for a reader of any background. If you are really curious about different approach to how climatic system might work - this book is a must to read. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, you can discover many new things about climate variability, as I did. It's not an easy reading (it's not supposed to be!) and I found numerous figures and graphs to be really helpful. My recommendation: whethere you deal with climate as professional, or you are just curious about it - read this book carefully and you'll appreciate it.
