This book is the fruit of six years of work by the author on the use of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging to investigate the female breast. Although MR imaging has not yet become a routine method of investigating the breast, Dr Heywang makes it clear that this method, especially with the use of contrast media, is an almost ideal complementary procedure in cases in which neither mammography nor ultrasound yields an unequivocal result. In such cases patients need not be left in the dark. MR imaging may obviate the need for biopsy or at least ensure that it is performed in the right place and at the right time. In this situation, the author has found MR imaging of the breast to be valuable and important in diagnosis and aftercare. |
