EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description People are forced to use passwords to access their online personal accounts (banks, credit cards, email, etc.) and work-related applications (VPN, CRM, etc.). They even have passwords for logging into Windows and allowing tasks prompted by Vista's User Account Control (UAC). Requirements based on password length and use of capitalization, numbers and symbols result in countless different passwords that are hard to manage. How often do you rely on the "Forget password?" link to have your password emailed to you?Accessing your personal accounts is now as simple as swiping your finger. Now that you don't have to remember or enter passwords, you can create "strong" passwords (long and complex) that are replayed when you swipe your finger, making your personal accounts more secure. In order to cope with countless different passwords, people often write them down on sticky notes or in a spreadsheet. Doing so exposes your personal accounts to someone who walks by your computer, who steals your PC, or who mines for such data online. Using a common password offers thieves a one-stop-shop for the keys to your accounts, while using simple or obvious passwords such as your pet's name are susceptible to remote hacking.Nervous about using fingerprints? Relax. Your fingerprint image is not stored, only a handful of unique features called a "template" which are extracted from your fingerprint and cannot be used to reconstruct an image. Also, concerns related to fingerprints are exaggerated - people leave their fingerprints on objects everyday such as cell phones, drinking glasses, doorknobs, etc. The point is: a simple fingerprint image cannot be used to "spoof" or be "inserted" into a UPEK fingerprint reader. |

| Wont buy because you charge for software by G. Smith 1 Stars October 21, 2009 You people are business noobs. What idiot is going to pay for software that should be included to operate the hardware at optimum performance.
I bought from another company that DOES include software.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
| | Pay to work with Firefox, won't do RDP by Henry R. Crawford 3 Stars October 08, 2009 The product is attractive, and does a nice job of logging me into my domain account when I'm sitting at the machine. Offers to remember, and does, passwords entered in IE8. Nice.
However, the latest Firefox requires a software update from Upek -- and you can't have one! Not unless you (re)-buy the fingerprint management software directly from them! Otherwise, you're stuck with the 1000-builds-ago version on the CD you get in the package. That seems unique in my rather extensive experience. The software is fifteen bucks as I write this.
In addition, I have a huge number of remote logins via RDP. The software does not recognize an RDP login window, so I'm out of luck there.
| | I Like...But by RsF-TodBuilt 3 Stars September 26, 2009 I like this product, but when I realized that if I wanted to actually use it I would have to buy the software seperatly. I was alittle ticked to say the least. What kind of outfit sales a product and doesn't put the software in the package. The software was not expensive but if I had known I would not have purchased this item, simply because it looked a little dishonest. Why not just raise the price of the item to cover the price of the software so you can use the item straight out of the box? The 3 stars is for the software not being in the box....Functionality gets 5 stars
| | Easy to use and great security by JPK 5 Stars August 29, 2009 I purchased the Eikon for my office as we really needed to take security seriously and not make security difficult. Eikon accomplished both. To log in, you simply swipe your finger. Logging off is just as easy. Now my staff will use security because it is easy and effortless. I was concerned that the recognition would be cumbersome and fickle. I was afraid the finger alignment would be very critical, but it has been unbelievably easy. The only glitch we had was with one lady who could not get the Eikon to register her finger. She then remembered she had run her fingers through her hair quite a bit and probably had hairspray on her fingers. She washed her hands and has not had a problem in the month since then.
This is a real steal.
| | Software upgrades aren't free by Annoyed (Atlanta) 2 Stars August 29, 2009 This works great. Until a new version of Firefox comes out. Then you need a new Firefox extension to make the fingerprint reader work. Does UPEK provide this for free? Nope: they make you pay. So keep in mind that UPEK treats purchasers of this product as a continuing revenue stream.
