This motherboard is cheap, small and having good support on Linux. I used Ubuntu 9.04 32-bit. I found the 64-bit version has power management problem that causes one core is running on power management all the time.
But, the big pain is, after few months, the fan is getting noisy. The sound is tooooooooo loud. I am looking for a replacement for it. If you know a good alternative to the CPU fan on the board, please let me know.

I chose this board wanting to get experience with the Atom CPU as a modern, power-efficient chip. The Atom is rated at 4 W TDP, but my system ended up drawing 40 W AC. This is because the chipset supporting the Atom is not especially power efficient, and also because of the HD, power supply inefficiency, etc. Even so, 40 W makes a pretty efficient desktop system. No case fans needed, although the CPU has its own quiet fan.
The board installed well (leaving a vast empty volume in my ATX case) and ran Ubuntu Linux very nicely, 32- or 64-bit, with 1GB RAM and hyperthreading. Unfortunately the board failed after several days running at 100% CPU on [...] scientific projects. Yes, that is a weird application for this lower performance chip! Nevertheless, the board froze up and could not be fully booted into the OS. Amazon quickly supplied a replacement, which is now working fine.
Next time, I would go for the dual-core Atom, and I would want a mini-ITX case to take advantage of the compact board.

I bought this board just becuase it was so cheap since it had the mobo and the processor all in one. It was a very easy computer build since it was also my first one. Currently I have Windows 7 RC installed on it. I was pretty surprised on how nimble this little thin is. It really isnt a speed demon but it can get simple tasks going acceptionally quick. You can open up a few windows while surfing the net and the computer won't slug down much. Once you start playing videos is when the processor really spikes up and you'd have to close everything down to watch a HQ video on youtube. For HD, forget about it, it just laggs like crazy and the whole computer slows down way too much. I really do love the efficiency of the whole system though. I can have files downloading from the internet pretty much all day without draining that much power. It's rated 4W for just the processor which is oustanding since normal ones can go up and around 80W. I'm thinking of just selling it for a bit of a profit and buying myself it's older brother with two processors. Just put a PCI graphics card and everything will run like a top of the line computer for much more bang for the buck. It does what it was supposed to do, they focused on power efficiency and not on hardcore multitasking and gaming. Not my type but I know someone out there will think this one is perfect.

This is a great little board. I installed XPPro, Vista and Windows 7 RC.
All installed without a hitch. The board will play standard Def Video (AVI) just fine. Just keep in mind that this processor and intel video does not have the power for highdef x.264.
