| Handy to have a spare by Susan Hanus (Wisconsin) 5 Stars November 28, 2009 At 14.99 it is worth having a spare. The Kindle always seems to run low on power at the farathest distance from wherever the cord is plugged in. THe first chaarger is plugges in next to my bed and I have been keeping the extra one plugged in next to my reading chair. I also like it for travel.
I also love the detachable plug. I have used it to charge other items that are slow to take an initial charge through a USB. I don't know why more products don't come with one.
| | Travelers beware. by Martha L. Scully (Richmond, KY USA) 4 Stars November 27, 2009 We recently took a two-week trip to the West Coast and somewhere along the way, after recharging my Kindle, I inadvertently left the converter portion of the plug plugged into a socket. The next time I went to use it, all I had was the cord with a connection for a USB port, but no way to plug it in for recharging. Having been too many places in too short a time, there was no way to retrieve the missing converter plug. So be careful when unplugging your charger that you don't leave part of it behind like I did.
| | Good Device, but should be better! by K. P. Walters (New York, NY) 3 Stars November 27, 2009 I am writing specifically in reference to the usb/power charger that came with my Kindle. I purchased this item in August and it has worked wonderfully until for reasons unknown to me, the device stopped working as as usb connection to my computer, where you are supposed to be able to both charge the device, and transfer data (this ability is vastly superior to the manual download when you have multiple items to be downloaded, it does all at once, rather than on an individual basis as is the case when you download from the kindle itself). Hopefully this will not prove to be the case with the replacement I purchased for travel.
| | Very well pleased by JB 5 Stars November 24, 2009 The kindle simply has met all of my expectations. I have also been pleasantly surprised by the number of free downloads available.
| | Pretty close to perfect for an accessory by Adam (Richland, WA) 4 Stars November 22, 2009 Put simply this power adapter/usb cable is great. If my Kindle needs charging I have two options, either plugging it into my PC or plugging it into an outlet and I only ever need to have the one cord. This makes it great when traveling.
There is only one thing that I can give criticism to which is, for some of us absent minded people, it's easy to misplace the outlet adapter when needing to use the USB cable. Just like my keys I will set it down close by and 10 minutes later not be able to find it.
I would suggest adding an optional tether that makes the outlet adapter disconnect from the USB tip but hang from the cord. If you are familiar with power tools this is a feature that's used on drills, having the chuck attached to the power cord so it's never lost.
Other than that one little thing this is perfect and if you are one that travels a lot or spends a lot of time at work then I would simply suggest buying an extra to keep at the office or in your briefcase/travel case.
