I hate this printer! by R. RAUSCH 1 Stars
November 25, 2009
After 5 years my old officejet printer finally succumbed to age so I bought this printer. Oh woe is me... 1. The box only had 1/2 a power cord. After some time on the phone I was informed by HP support that they would ship me a new cord and I would receive it in 2 weeks. If that time frame was unacceptable to me I couple pay for 2 day shipping at a cost of $27. Thanks but no thanks. I went to a Friend who repairs computers and he had a extra cord. 2. After installing the program everything looked fine until my wife tried to print airline tickets in landscape format. So printing with IE or Acrobat reader in landscape causes the the printer to be "Jammed" even though no paper is actually jammed. The page just stops printing. Portrait format printed fine(for the most part see below). So I called HP support again. After about 2 hours of monkey around with them the last "tech" said my software was at fault and not the printer or its drivers and have a nice day. So I checked online for new HP software and found that there was a patch to fix some bugs. I was sorta surprised tech support never suggest that so I installed the patch and lo and behold I can now print landscape in Adobe acrobat but not IE. I am making progress here. So I downloaded Firefox and I can now print in landscape. 3. I decided to print a doc with 4 pages on one page in portrait to save on paper and ink. After about six tries I finally got the document printed. I kept getting the document jammed but no paper actually jammed again. Which is sorta annoying because after you turn the power off and on it takes like 3-4 mins to re initialize. So the bottom line is I have this crappy printer that is not compatible with common programs like adobe acrobat or internet explorer. It jams all the time. It has crappy tech support and when it does print it is so loud it actually makes me cringe because I think it is going to blow up. I am taking it back this weekend. Have a nice day.

Required duplexer makes for akward placement, wireless difficult by J. Zahn (Wexford, PA United States) 3 Stars

I am an IT professional and work on equipment like this everyday. I was replacing a Dell P720 so just looking for a basic printer that would look nice in the desk area by eliminating cords. Well, the price was nice and shipment from Amazon good. The machine comes with TONS of print cartridges and was easy to put together. The main negative for me was there is a horribly placed "duplexer" in back that you MUST have plugged in at all times or print jobs will fail. This thing sticks out about 5 inches from the back of the printer, so you will never be able to place this machine flush against a wall. For me this was bad as it just doesn't look as nice as one that would sit in a corner flush to a wall. Secondly, the wireless. Good and bad news. Bad news = I spent about 90 minutes trying to get the stupid HP software to set up my wireless for me but it kept failing with indecipherable errors. I was about to give up and return it when I decided to delete the HP set up and just set it up through Windows default printer set-up. Doing it this way, the wireless works perfectly. Thinking I fixed it, I tried the HP software again, and it still was failing and would break the wireless. SO, I gave up on the HP software and just did it through Windows and have left it alone and it works just fine. Bottom line, don't bother with the HP software and do it through Windows if you are doing wireless. Printing is much quieter than my old printer, quality is good, and it looks nice. However, I wouldn't buy it given a second chance due to the inability to sit flush on a wall and the goofy HP software. One other tip, through the end of the year, HP is doing a "Trade up and Save" rebate where you can get $50 back on this printer just by mailing back your old printer (doesn't even have to be working AND they give you a pre-paid label).

Acts like I do when getting up in the morning by Steven C. Thompson (Chattanooga, TN) 3 Stars

This is a nice, inexpensive inkjet printer and overall I would say it's definitely worth the price. The print quality is very good and having built-in wireless makes it a snap to set it up where you want it, not just where the cables will reach. And, of course, being wireless means you can share it with all of the computers/laptops you may have at home (this is definitely not an office printer). The only problem I have with this printer is the time that it needs to get ready to print the first page. As the printer prepares to print the first page it sounds like it's setting and resetting itself multiple times (moving the print head back and forth, rolling various rollers and such). The first time I printed to it I thought it was broken and turned it off and on again to reset it. Once I let it do all of it's initial gyrations and it started to print it was fine (nice fast printing in the draft mode). I'm not sure how long the printer has to be idle before it triggers this first page initialization routine, but the initialization process takes 2 minutes (that is not an exaggeration, I timed it)! Once you get past the initialization routine, it's an excellent printer with fine print quality and print speed even on subsequent print jobs (as long as they are sent to the printer before it goes to sleep again).

This is a very good all in one. Easy to set up, love the fact that it prints both on both sides. Will work great for brochures. However, it takes a bit to do that speed wise but for home use excellent!!

If I had known ahead of time what I was getting into, I would have made another selection.
