CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 4.0 based on 22 reviews)
| Fantastic. Purchase depends on your ability to pay. by Eric S. Olstad (New Jersey, USA) 5 Stars August 17, 2009 I really like these Woodees. There is not a doubt that they are leagues above your typical $10 earbuds in both construction quality and sound production quality. They are classy-looking and they sound fantastic. But for a price tag that's 6x what you would pay for the stock iPod earbuds or similar, purchasing these means you really have to be somewhat of an audiophile or you just have money to burn and you want to wear cool-looking and distinct earbuds.
Having owned both the ipod-style earbuds that loosely hang in your ear and the rubber-fitting ones like these Woodees, I can say with certainty that these are the best earbuds I've ever owned. The construction quality is magnificent save for one area, which I will get to shortly. The stereo connector is 24k gold and the earbuds themselves have a hollowed wooden resonance chamber that's wrapped in some kind of metal. It makes for quite a sound. But, as has been said in many other reviews, the part where the wire meets the earbud is too hard or something because it picks up quite a bit of noise when touching the wire or when it slaps against your chest. Others have complained that that makes these bad earbuds for exercising. But I would say that any $60 pair of earbuds are bad for exercising anyway. That's a job much better suited to a cheaper earbud rather than these audiophile buds. So, I don't fault the Woodees for that. You can easily drown out the wire noise by making them louder.
These are certainly quite powerful. I compared them directly to whatever headphones I had lying around, which included a few sets of earbuds and a pair of over-the-ear headphones (the kind that go behind your head). The Woodees easily bested them all. I find that bringing them up to full power is dangerous, but that's a good thing in my book.
Really, there's not much else I can say that others haven't already said. In addition to the earbuds, you get a velvet bag to store them in and a set of additional silicon buds for different ear sizes.
So, like I said, if you got the money to burn or are a serious audiophile, these are definitely worth considering. But if you're just looking for a new set of earbuds for working out, you should probably look elsewhere.
| | simply the best by shannon kenneth curry 5 Stars July 18, 2009 Simply the best sounding earbuds I,ve ever heard. I,ve owned many earbuds in my life, these out rank many costing 4x,s as much. I own top of the line in all electronics and very hard to satisfy. I am very satisfied with this product.
| | Sounds good! by Scott Richardson (Chicago, IL USA) 4 Stars July 16, 2009 I go through a pair of headphones in 2-3 months. Obviously, I'm the common element here, so it's got to be something I'm doing wrong. Anyway, this pair of Woodees I'm wearing has held up under daily use for two months, which is about average for me. They're very, very comfortable and provide a deep, rich sound without sounding overly bassy.
The one major complaint I had with these was that any slight disturbance to the cable transmitted directly into my ears, making them virtually worthless if I'm, say, walking or doing anything other than sitting still. However, I finally figured out how the (not intuitive) clip that comes with the earphones works, and while it's not exactly the most fashionable fix, it's much more bearable. I don't know if this is how the people at Woodees intended the clip to go, but the little notch on the back of the plastic clip doesn't move, so you've got to fold the headphone wires in half, individually, to slip them under there. I put my clip on the headphone wires themselves (after the point where it splits into left and right wires, between the 24k gold connector and the earphone) and then clipped it to my shirt. My range of motion is somewhat limited by this, but it makes listening to music a whole lot more tolerable.
| | Wonderful clarity and definition! by J. J. Marino (Rochester, New York) 5 Stars June 28, 2009 I am not 100% sure that wood helps the product, I can however say that they sound fantastic. In my opinion lots of wood, that that found in a solid body guitar, a violin or so on makes the sound resonate. These tiny ear buds probably don't contain enough wood to make it really solid, but who knows. All I can say is that they really sound great. The lows are deep, mid range pop and the highs are spot on.
I compared these to some Skullcandy Smokin' Buds Stereo Earbuds - Black (EH17-SKC33) that I had previously purchased. There is NO comparison. Playing the same song and switching the earbuds you can hear the quality difference most markedly. I never noticed how flat the skull candy ones were until I heard these.
There is great quality all around; first with the wood case, the gold connectors and anodized aluminum makes these top rate in ear headphones. Even the cord is a very good quality material. I have yet to get it tangled up even though I work with these on every day and do a lot of moving.
Pros:
>> Sound is fantastic
>> Quality is above par
>> Attention to detail in the fit and finish of the product
Cons:
| | Nearly perfect single driver headphones by P. MSakamoto (Saratoga, California USA) 5 Stars June 25, 2009 These are really good sounding earphones for the money. They have a very open and rich sound to them that is the best I have heard in a single element earphone.
Pros:
* Fit - Excellent. Comes with various sizes of ear cushion/seals. I was able to find a set of cushions that fit well.
* Sound - Excellent. Balanced from bass through treble. Has a wonderful stereo image that gives a much more "present" feeling to vocalists and solo instruments than other similarly priced earphones. I have compared them to Apple, J Bud J2, Vmoda Metal, and Koss in ear. They sound much more open and have more airy treble in particular. Overall, very, very pleasing sound
* Comes with a small velvet bag for transport. Most phones in this class don't.
* Build - They look and feel well built. The part of the phone that looks like brass or copper seems like it's actually brass or copper and not plastic. The wood portion is actually wood and is well finished. the cord, plug and stress reliefs on the ends of the cord are all well done too.
* Plug - the plug at the end of the cord fits an iPhone without using an adaptor. The plug also fits through the access hole for the phones on my iPod nano case and is made of metal with good strain relief. In case you're wondering why I obsess about plugs, it's because I've bought phones with right angle or thick plugs and they just don't fit on iPod family stuff.
Cons
There is only one, which is that the cushions come off just a bit too easily for me to be completely happy. Other phones have the same issue, but everything else on these was so great I thought that perhaps they would have beaten this issue, but they didn't. So, once you find the right set, you may want to consider tacking them on with a bit of glue - just enough to prevent falling off, but not so much as to prevent replacement when they wear out.
