Get Peek by S. Darby (san francisco, ca United States) 5 Stars

The Peek device delivers what it says, "Affordable, unlimited, no contract service." I had previously been a heavy user of Blackberry before being laid off from my job. I needed a simple, easy-to-use device to access my Yahoo email account for job search and daily life and didn't want to have to pay excessively for a data plan with a fixed contract. The Peek offers me simple and affordable mobile access to my emails and unchains me from my computer. I'm especially pleased now that I can access up to five email accounts since my wife also can use my Peek to keep in touch when we're away on vacation and its a snap to add or delete email accounts. This feature helps very much when accessing segregated accounts, i.e. job search email account, small business email account, personal email account, etc. It is not a be-all-end-all device like the Blackberry, iPhone, etc. But that's not its intention and it delivers what it promises: affordable, unlimited, no contract service.

Just what I wanted by gadgetGuy 5 Stars

Peek Pronto is GREAT for me. Cost is low. I went with lifetime. At just a tad over the cost of a year of service why not. You can email, update your facebook status, tweet (yep you can TWEET with it) using free email to service apps this little device can actually do a lot. Get you directory assistance FREE, maps, weather and more. I have my home phone voicemail set to be transcribed to text and emailed to me. Once you think about it.. this little device does more than you think, and doesn't cost me $100 a month! I am saving over $900 in the first year along by NOT having a cell phone and using this device. For me it did just what I wanted and needed.

Okay for email, not good for texting by David Winer (Berkeley, California) 2 Stars

I saw the Peek products advertised on the Amazon home page, and was looking for a way to help my 77-year old mother get started with texting. I thought Peek's advertised simplicity might be the answer. So I bought a device for $[...] and bought one month of service for $[...], with the understanding that it's not a service plan, and if I didn't like it, I could easily opt-out. I used it for a few days and decided it wasn't what I wanted. It is simple, but the text messaging feature is a hack on top of email, and they put ads for their service in the text messages, and texting is more or less one-way, and it's the wrong way for me. It's easy for the Peek user to send text messages but virtually impossible for them to receive them. This didn't suit the application I had in mind, because I wanted the ability to send messages to mom. I didn't think she'd be sending many on her own (she doesn't now). So I decided to opt out. There's no way to do it from the website. They don't explain how to opt out the FAQ, [...]. When I called the sales department, they said I could turn the service off, but I wouldn't be able to use the remaining time on the month worth of service I had already purchased. I said that's unacceptable. I wanted to get off the monthly plan and use the remainder of the time I had already purchased. (Maybe I'd find another use for it?) After a lot of back and forth, the service person, Jacqueline, said I should get in touch with the operations manager, David Hung. I'm going to email him a pointer to this blog post. Net-net, Peek is an attractive device, the service works reasonably well for email, but not for texting. It is simple to set up and use, however they don't make it easy to get out. At this point, I'm still going to charged for $[...] on December 2. They'll probably do what I asked after reading this review, but you shouldn't have to write a review for what should be a routine matter. It should be easy to turn the automatic renewal off and on as you wish. Not the kind of service I've come to expect from products promoted by Amazon.

A Work in Progress by hdtravel (USA) 2 Stars

Although the idea is definitely unique - a simple email only device, the Peek is still not quite there yet. It has been out over a year and still seems like a beta product. It is really a mixed bag. Pros: Small, thin design Excellent, responsive customer service ( you never experienced anything like it ! ) Innovative idea No contract No hidden fees No credit check Cheaper email solution than the big bad cell phone companies Cons: Looks like a calculator or toy Small screen that is hard to read ( low resolution, very limited font selection & size ). If you have older eyes, forget it. No true IMAP syncing of your email No true IMAP email folder support No ability to view HTML emails ( so common these days ). Text based only ! Toy-like keyboard ( not high quality like a BlackBerry ) Limited selection of colors No ability to receive over-the-air software updates ( you must send it to them in New York City or buy a special proprietary cable ) ( big design flaw ) Limited availability ( not sold in big box stores ) Unreliable email pushing ( some times it works fast and other times not at all ) ( speed varies by email provider too ) Do you really want to carry another electronic device around with you ? If I were you I would wait a while and see if they release a new version with improved software and capabilities. Skip this 1.0 product.

Take a peek at Peek by C. Clark (Sunshine State) 5 Stars

My peek has surprised and delighted me from the start. I am able to be inside a building or outside and get all bars, unlike some phones/devices. I am can with a quick touch of a button see my 2 email accounts merged together with out having to switch between email. You get notification when a new email arrives, you choose whether to look or not. When we have been in some campground where some cell service could get email and some could not, my little peek just chirped out the email. Way to go Peek. You have made Peek what I had been craving without having to spend lots of money on a web phone. Thank you, a Peek customer for life. Everyone who sees and comments on my little Peek, I spread how it has made my life easier.
