Product Description
Corsair solid state disk drives set a new standard for reliability in desktop and notebook storage solutions. Corsair solid state disk drives utilize specially selected Samsung components to enable a life expectancy of over 100 years and OEM level compatibility and performance consistency. Unlike traditional mechanical hard disk drives, Corsair solid state disk drives have no moving parts. This results in faster system responsiveness, quieter operation and reduced overall system temperatures.

AMAZING SPEED by T. Hensgens (Welsh, La USA) 4 Stars
November 27, 2009
I have heard it all,and I have seen it all. "You need more RAM" "You need a faster Processor" "You need this and you need that" I have tweaked, and tried it all, but nothing ever compared to the speed increase as this SSD Hard drive has. People have to experience it to believe it. Boot time is Cut not by half, but much more than half. Anything that loads, loads at warp speed. Anything that draws or renders is instantly done. Web browsing is not faster, it just seems so much faster because pages load faster. Sites contect and render faster. From site to site and page to page is almost like switching channels on a TV. I have never in all my years seen such speed. The only reason I did not give this drive a 5 Star is because Samsung (Maker of the drive) and Corsair have not come up with the TRIM revision as of yet....11/26/09. TRIM is vital to keeping this drive fast. Like Defragging is vital to keeping a regular Hard drive fast. When the firmware becomes available, this will be a 5 Star device. Three things PC Makers need to do to make computing the best: 1. Get rid of the BIOS 2. Cut boot time to nothing. 3. Get rid of the requirement to restart everytime we upgrade or install anything. Then Personal and business computing will be like Star Trek Intended it to be. We are getting there. With this Drive, Computing in the 21st Century is now in start mode.

Corsair 256GB SSD: An excellent upgrade by J. Weeks 4 Stars

The Corsair SSD has improved boot and operation speeds dramatically. Before the upgrade, booting from cold start took 2.5 to 3 minutes. Now, total time from power off to complete boot and all systems go is 40 seconds! All programs load quicker. iTunes, one of my slower loading programs pops up after just 1 to 2 bounces on the dock compared to 8-12 before the upgrade. MacSpeech performance is much better. Now, I never get ahead of the program and it has made MacSpeech much more appealing to use. My MacBook Pro is an intel model version that immediately predated the revision with the permanent battery. The effort to remove the old hard drive and install the new is minimal. No more than 8 to 10 minutes total. It does require a Torx screw removal, so a set of computer tech tools is needed. These kits can be bought for less than 30 dollars.

very easy to upgrade your mac or pc by A. Barkaloff (Los Angeles, CA) 5 Stars

First of all I highly recommend using Dropbox ([...]) to back up upwards of 100Gb of personal files in a networked environment. Then install this drive and watch all of your files come back to the drive automatically, especially since the drive is so fast. I did some research into the various SSD drives and for the price and performance (200 Mbps read, 220 mpbs write) this is a very good value. Consider that these drives were so much more expensive only a few months ago but not worth it to wait any longer. Replace your old HHD. This takes care of the need of having to worry about hard drive failures, degragmenting (SSDs don't need to be defragmented) and other general failures.

I'm relieved by James C. Blasius (Naperville, IL United States) 5 Stars

Spending 8x the cost of a hard drive to buy a smaller drive for my macbook pro left me a bit concerned. Would it be worth it? When my boot time didn't go to five seconds (remember the diagnostics take the same time), it left me concerned. Was I a fool? Probably, but that's not the point. Having lived with this thing for a week or two, I begin to understand: the machine doesn't slow down. Running a compile in a VM doesn't slow down firefox elsewhere or vice-versa. Today I was copying a VM to another drive and thought I'd check the restore time for a different machine. It was like nothing else was going on. The activity monitor showed disk reads of 185MB/second with the two disk heavy operations going on. Very impressive. Most of my apps open on one bounce in the dock. The rest open in two. VMs start up fast; snapshots happen fast. Running two hefty VMs at the same time doesn't lug and heat the machine as it once did. My compiles run significantly faster. I'm relieved. Oh, and it's nice to be able to close the laptop and move the thing immediately rather than waiting for the disk to finish and spin down.

Great so far - noticeably faster and no problems by M. Dowdie 5 Stars

I bought this drive to use in my ThinkPad T61, replacing a Seagate 7200.4 500GB drive. The Seagate drive I replaced is very fast as 2.5" mechanical drives go, but this Corsair drive is noticeably faster. (Even though the T61 is limited to SATA I 1.5Gbps speed, so can't take full advantage of the Corsair's throughput.) My Windows 7 boot time was cut almost in half. Also full text searches in Outlook, which often took 10-15 seconds with other drives, are nearly instantaneous. Highly recommended.
