| Soccer Mom by B. Getachew 5 Stars October 21, 2009 OMG! Loved it. Its accurate, clever and saves me from those annoying speed cameras. Driving 6 kids around and making sure getting them to soccer and all their practice on time is not easy.
Once I got the Phantomalert in my TomTom, no matter how much my kids get loud or distracting, the alert is loud and specific enough to let me know when I need to slow down and whats coming up ahead in advance so I can avoid getting an expensive ticket. Who can afforded a $100 ticket every time you get flashed? My husband has been laid off for months now and we are tight on money.. I think it is underhanded to nab people for going a few miles over and extorting money from them. I also like the alerts for the school zones. I wish all cars had it installed. I would feel my kids were safe near school. What they need is to also add "speed bump" alerts. Hate going over one when I not paying attention.
| | happy truck driver by R. Kassa (Scottsdale, AZ) 5 Stars October 07, 2009 I give it A+++++++. 3 months and no traffic tickets for me..so far:). I know for sure it has saved me from several speed traps and red light camera tickets. As a truck driver, I am on the road all the time and having phantomalert on my GPS has made my driving a lot less stressful and safer. I can't keep track of all the red light or speed camera locations. Who can? Some times the way you find out the speed limit has dropped from 65 to 45 is after you get pulled over. My garmin now alerts me of all those areas where cops like to set up speed traps. As soon as I hear "ALERT... speed trap area" I slow down make sure I m below the limit just in case trap is awaiting. let him tag some one else.. I can't afford to get tickets and points. My livelyhood depends on it. I belive it is legal as it is not a radar detector. My only suggestion is they need to get more people to report enforecement locations. Especially the mobile speed camera locations and speed traps.
| | Japanese GPS Fanatic by J. Tariku (Virginia) 5 Stars September 01, 2009 If you hate traffic tickets this is a must have for your GPS. Brilliant, simple and easy to use. It alerted me to several Speed Traps in VA and NYC and Speed Cameras in DC on a drive from Virgina to New York City over the last week already. Now I know where those pesky traps are. I was getting fed up and having a hard time keeping up with all the new cameras that kept on cropping up in Maryland and DC. This has solved my problem. I love the fact that my Garmin will alert me of a potential speed trap up ahead and usually there will be a cop waiting with his radar gun or speed camera van. No more costly surprises for me. I love my Garmin and I don't drive without it anymore! Who knew a GPS could help you avoid traffic tickets.
Tip: Watch the easy tutorial video before downloading - trust me it will save you time. I recommend the $99.99 life time deal as you can share it with friends and family.
Complaint: More users need to report new trap locations.
Overall: Well done guys - great product/service!
PhantomALERT PA99MAD Software for Select Garmin, TomTom, and Magellan GPS
| | Worth it just follow the instuctions by Roger Swanson (Phoenix) 4 Stars August 13, 2009 After a couple tries at installing this in my 255w i finally got it working. I had to get help from customer service but it ended upthat I just didn't follow the directions all the way to make the alarms when I installed it- drove by a school a few blocks away the first time and nothing then tried it again after they helped me and the alarm goes off with a red bar just in time for back to school reminders. cameras seem to work fine also it goes off all the time but we have lots of cameras and they said I could change the warning distance if i need to. so far worth the ten bucks if it saved me from a ticket will probably upgrade to another plan if it continues to work or the phone version is released
| | Probably 5 stars by Harry G. Arnold (Oak Ridge, TN United States) 4 Stars August 01, 2009 I've only had the PhantomALERT database a few hours, but determined that it has two features:
1. It knows all of the speed camera and light camera locations in my small burg, even though two of them are still in "test/warning" mode.
2. It works in "tracking" mode in addition to "navigation" mode. In other words just turn it on and it will pick up the locations as you come to them even though you don't enter a final destination first.
A problem appears to be that my GPS (Garmin 265W) can't hold data for more than about five states. I haven't investigated this limitation, yet, but I think this may be a generic warning for older GPSs. The only data base I know about with virtually unlimited capacity is designed as a transparent map overlay instead of "proximity points", but doesn't have enough U.S. data to be of interest (pocketgpsworld).
The solution to the above problem, I think, is to buy the $99 lifetime update and simply load different states when you take a trip. They warn that the "unlimited" updates may just be promotional, but you can save data bases of different states on your PC under different names now (I think -- untested by me so far) just in case.
