Gamma ray is one of the best power metal bands out there and not to mention lead guitarist kai hansen (former helloween) was one of the founding fathers in the history of the european metal scene and with out him power metal would not exist.
This album has all the great thrash metal tunes and wonderful melody and the best songs are: the heart of the unicorn/ follow me/ & dethrone tyranny, You want real thrash power metal pick up your credit card and buy this CD online and you will not be able to find this in stores anywhere hell nobody even knows them in the USA which is a shame because talentless crap like nickleback is polluting the air waves.
This is no iron maiden/judas priest wannabe band, hell their even better than them (no offense) these guys rule!

it was pretty late, so I got up this morning played Land of the Free 2, then popped this baby in. After two years of waiting and listening to iTunes, I was totally blown away. It was F'n worth the wait. The music and lyrics are fantastic. In the conventional order of things, this would be the appetizer, Somewhere Out In Space is the side dish, and Land of the Free I is the main course served by Gamma Ray. To get off topic, why is there sight down? No one can get on. Their third best album, or second depending on who's listening to it. For the casual listener, get tracks Introduction through New World Order. Otherwise, you better get the whole album.

"No World Order," in my opinion, is Gamma Ray's finest work, keeping in touch with their traditional guitar orientated speed-power metal while incorporating...New Wave Of British Heavy Metal elements? Yes! It's true, this album is very much influenced by the NWOBHM movement, particularly Judas Priest (listen to "Eagle," and "Solid" at the pre-choruses). The verse for "Heart of the Unicorn" sounds similar to Judas Priest's "Painkiller" verse, and parts of "Solid" sounds like Priest's "Rapid Fire" - but no worries, these similarities do not mean a rip-off in anyway, just influences! But that's fine, they combine it with their power metal sound they are known for. It kicks off with a choir-chanting intro before hitting into "Dethrone Tyranny" which is a typical Gamma Ray anthem, then runs into "Heart of the Unicorn" which has a very thunderous guitar riff and Kai Hansen's Rob Halford-esque verse just thrills me. "Heaven or Hell" reminds me of Helloween (Kai's old band) during the Keeper of the Seven Keys days in the late 80s, and the song is one of my personal favorites. "New World Order" has a very 80s NWOBHM riff kinda Black Sabbath-like with a bluesy tingle, but thunders when all the instruments come in, and the chorus is very powerful, anthemic, and always makes me want to raise my fist while shouting "WE ARE ILLUMINATES!" I personally loved this album and is one of my favorite power metal albums of all time and my favorite Gamma Ray CD period. Gamma Ray fans owe it to themselves to have this CD in their collection, and it's a good place to start if you are new to the band. I'd also recommend "Majestic," "Land of the Free," and "Somewhere Out In Space," after this CD, but I'm a Gamma Ray freak so I love all of their albums.

This CD has EVERYTHING a metal fan could want.....Power, Emotion, Chops, Excellent Writing....This is such a cool album. The guitar tone reminds me of Maiden's Piece of Mind Era!!! Every song is better than the previous....A no brainer for metal fans....

I've been a Helloween fan since I bought Keepers Part 1 back in '87 and then Wall of Jerico after that. But I never gave Gamma Ray a chance until much later. I love Wall's music especially Kai and Mike's guitar, but I only tolerated Kai's vocal which sorta led me to stay away from Gamma Ray. Then 2001 game along and I visited Gamma's official web-site for the first time and listened to sound samples of there music and to my superise they were awesome. I rushed out to the mall and No World Order was the only release that the store had so I bought it and it changed my attitude of Kai. His vocals over the years have improved greatly and his guitar playing is better then ever. NWO became one of the faves and most listen too cd in my collection. Dethrone Tyranny displays his Helloween roots. A great melodic speed metal tune. The Heart of the Unicore sounds like something that came off of Judas Priest's Painkiller album (another much listened to album.) Heavy rhythms, high pitched vocals and killer solos. Other highlights include New World Order, Damn the Machine, and Solid. Lake of Tears is nice power ballad that really showed me how much Kai's vocals have evolved over the years. If you are new to Gamma Ray, buy this CD you won't be disappointed, (unless you're not a fan of melodic power metal.)
